Description This merits explanation. This is a sketch of my main character from Wow. Anyone who's played the game can probably tell this is a paladin from a mile away, and will most likely roll their eyes at the proceeding paragraph.

I quit last week, which was long over due since the school semester began. Mainly it was due to irritation with the player base and being sick of the constant arbitrary changes made by immature moderators responding to even more immature players. While I'm not getting into that, I honestly can't remember the last time the game was fun. I let this take up way too much of my time, and I realized I stopped enjoying it in the summer.

There's more than one reason for my decision, and I am not looking for sympathy or persuasion. I also know half the players in wow are paladins, and have been told ad naseum the other half hate them. So before a player with a class that got a buff in the patch comes to tell me to stop complaining because the class was "OP" in Wrath, I don't give a shit. (And honestly they sucked for most of wow's duration, I'm not really interested in debating this.) So please save your breath and just play the game.
------------
This picture I'd actually finished in September, but i let it sit around and almost forgot about it. I included some of my favorite items the character had, as I'd grown fairly attached to this character. I don't know if I will be finishing this or not, but I am still taking wow themed commissions, and for a sketch like this I'd charge a little more than the usual, and would need a screen shot of better quality than the armory (character selection screens are perfect).

Hope ya like it.

Great job on the armor, it must have been hard getting all that detail in there

way too armored to be a paladin for my taste. i would've guess a knight but since i don't play WOW...

Paladins are just Knights. Historically they were in Charlemagne's service, and not wearing armor then basically equaled death on the battle field for infantry. The dress is the only thing that makes no sense.

i'm pretty much basing Paladins and Knights off of how they look in Final Fantasy where they are two seperate jobs. the only Paladin i recall is Cecil and he's not got a lot of armor but the other knights in the series are armored as heavily as your paladin or dressed like traditional knights depending on the game. even in FF11 they are treated as different jobs i believe and the knight is dressed heavier than the paladin.

i kinda know about ancient battle dress since everyone had to wear armor just to protect themselves from the swords, rapiers, daggers, etc... but had to go out with a bang when guns came along. they should take that element into consideration when you've got a gunner and face an enemy wearing armor by dealing double damage than other weapons.

Square Enix is hardly a standard for masculinity or correct armor design. I value history over a game any day of the week. And as I stated before, this is Wow's conception of Paladins.

The English word "Paladin" derives from the Italian "Paladino"(I kid you not), which descended from the Guards who served the Roman Emperor at the Palatine Hill. They're somewhat psuedo-mythical, but their historical first use is from the Battle of Roncevaux Pass. Legend has it that Paladins fought in the reconquest of Spain and are also obviously connected to the idea of Crusading.

If you enjoy the Final Fantasy understandings, by all means have fun with it. That's not what I intend to convey when I use the word, another one of my characters is a knight and aspires to be a Paladin. I listed where I'm coming from, I am not trying to tell you that you're wrong, but I disagree with your perspective.

Wrath was an epic fail overall, in my opinion u shud try to play a bit in cataclysm and see how that its, i must admit that noobs as u tried to explain earlier here will be eleminated by the new CC system in dungeons and so on.....

I actually enjoyed Wrath, It's clear to me now after the changes leading to 4.0.1 blizz is homogenizing every class to it's role. In that patch, they eliminated all fun-utility within the tree, gave lowbies way too many buffs and powers to early, (I feel like Ret should not be the staple tanking spec before 70, and locks should have to earn the felguard) across classes and screwed over nearly every melee at 80. GC obviously has an agenda and I think he's a talentless clown.

I'm amazed your scanner was able to pick this up. I have drawings I've been re-scanning for months, trying to get the details to show up like this! My scanner is built into a canon printer. What did you do that made this show up so well? I've resorted to buying a tablet with my Christmas money out of pure frustration. My unscanned pictures look like this, and then when I scan them, all I get is pixalated whiteout. My critique is: dang! You're good with a scanner and a pencil!

I draw extremely darkly for one, also I mess with exposure/contrast in PS when the lines are blurred.

Hey, Phil. I definitely see some significant improvement in your sketches. Great pose and attention to detail. Only things to consider are possibly economy of lines, i.e. cleaning up the sketches, being looser/more fluid in sketches, etc. Don't be afraid to make mistakes. Don't feel like you need to erase. Try new things and practice! Keep up the good work! c:

Aaaaah, WOW, the game that will waste your life away.

By the way, the drawing is very well done. But in WoW... I always wonder why the armor is so blinkin huge. How in the world would any guy, no matter how strong, run or walk in that stuff?

if it's not shiny and obnoxious, no one will be interested in wearing it.

True.

Then Blizzard should make some armor that looks cool but actually makes sense.

I guess its all down to the rule of cool. Like capes- serve no real practical purpose but make people look more dashing.
