Description This is my FOP version of Hephaestus, husband of Aphrodite and father of Cupid. Yes I know in mythology it was Ares who fathered Cupid but that doesn't seem like the kinda drama you'd see in FOP so let's not go there. Tis not right to warp the kiddies with the messed up love lives of the ancient greek gods & goddesses.

Heph's a god-class working man who turned in his bronze armor for a lab coat and safety goggles. Now he spends most of his time in his workshop on Mt. Olympus (hop, skip, and a jump from Fairy World) forging magical items and inventing new gizmos. His specialty is making weapons, everything from swords to arrows, armor to shields. He's also the Mr. Fix-It of the magic realm. While he's a happy family man now Heph still finds himself reminiscing about the ancient glory days.

If there's one thing Heph isn't good at it's dealing with his emotional wife. Poor guy's no Mr. Sensitivity and nothing sends him into a panic like Aphrodite carrying on about how worried she is that Cupid is still single. That could mean two horrible things (in her mind): Cupid losing his job for lack of experience in love (can't have a bachelor callin' the shots), or worse...no grandchildren! And when the water works are on Heph sighs and poofs off to have a heart-to-heart with his son. Cupid really hates those.

This new girl Chartre might just be the answer to Heph's prayers. So he's always urging his son "not to let this one get away". Typical family.

OMG I can see the lower left hand happening, from the earnest playful jabs in the chest to waving the torch in the air to mention something or other. XD Total awesomeness.

You can't blame Hep. He just wants the best for his son. HE does look very smart and heroic, as described in the pic. Awesome job all around!

As always, Ms. Romantic Comedian, a very detailed and well-thought out character design. I especially like how you made Heph sort of a manly-man to counter his wife's overt feminine-ness, as well as create conflict with his somewhat "less than manly" son, Cupid. Yay family dynamics!

I hope you don't mind, but I'd like to add a bit to your interpretation. You see, in mythology, the baby Hephaestus was cast down from Mt. Olympus by Hera in one of her jealous rages. This act crippled the demi-god's legs, so he compensated by developing his upper body strength, working as the forger of Zeus's lightning bolts in the fires beneath Mt. Olympus. From a psychological standpoint then, your version of Heph could also be compensating for his physical limitations with his "man's man" personality. I know your works are largely comedic and humorous in nature, but this detail might be something you want to consider, as part of who we are stems from how we deal with our own shortcomings (perceived and otherwise).

Sorry about that spiel--my fault for being both a psych student and lover of mythology, I guess. Please do with my comments whatever you will, because they're merely observations, not criticisms or crucial suggestions on what you SHOULD do. As I said in the beginning, your character is well conceived and thought out as he is--I was just musing on a way of enhancing and adding on to that.

Once again, great job with yet another original character. Keep up the good work!

I like the myth and all I'm just a little iffy about putting it with the FOP version cuz Hera tossing poor baby Heph off Mt. Olympus isn't exactly a kid-friendly thing. It might work as one of those unspoken things that people with the knowledge of the myth kinda infer about Heph based on his better built upper body and trouble handling/expressing emotions (especially when a melodramatic female's involved).

Thank you for the suggestion and the comment. I appreciate your well thought out feedback.

I understand where you're coming from, and I agree that it should probably be one of those "unspoken understandings" that people have for particular characters. I appreciate your receiving and considering my comments--I hope it didn't seem like I was trying to push anything on you, because I wasn't. Thank you again.

I think your Hephaestus is very realistic for the FOP world. You drew him with a strong chin, and a strong personality. I really enjoyed reading what you had to say about it. I like the transition from Greek God to modern man. Poor Cupid, I feel your pain.

Ah, yes. Censoring the nasty Greek stuff (like exactly HOW certain gods were related...such as Zeus and Hera o_o) and replacing it with stuff the kiddies can handle. You perhaps pull it off better then Disney did in Hercules.

I gave him a nickname? You mean Heph? Lol, I hate spelling it out.

Now onto Anti-Aphrodite, Anti-Hephestus etc. You're almost done here. Eh, I'd rather prefer to stick with the original mythos with a dash bit of FOP.
