Description Over some months midway through the year I have been practicing and studying various character designs from video games. Tends to be a somewhat enlightening experience, especially with characters from fighting games.

Seeing as how I'd like to get everything done in 2010 submitted within that year, here we go.

-----------------------------------------------

Sometime in the early 90s there was a game called Skeleton Krew, while I could not find much useful information as far as the story goes - my only prognosis of the game is that it is infact one of the most FREAKIN METAL GAMES EVER!

Apparently you're one of 3 Cyborg Undead-ish looking bastards with names of body parts using augmented weapons to blast mutants to hell in a place adorned with skulls, fire, hellish looking buildings with techno-crap.

So here we have Rib, the 1 chick you can play as. Kinda a contrast to other characters, because so far I've seen shes the only woman - but still blends in with looking twisted, fucked up, and deathly look the rest have. Big hair, black armor, red bodysuit and a ghostly white fast underneath her mask - screams metal, and executioner.

Honestly, shes almost such a theme you could just re-use her and the others again and again to get reinvented with.

Ummm, not sure if "nice" is good world to describe her but still she looks cool.
I remember that game, box version got small comic book about game plot, very short and simple but also very climatic. Game was "mixed bag", yes there is lot of "metal" feel in design, but with every next level game look worse. You collect credits but there is no shop to spend them on upgrades or extra lives. I like a lot how first and last levels look, full of dark gloomy sharp metal objects ^^

Very true, while the game itself was pretty unique for a...top down platformy shooter type thing... there was a lot of broken elements in the gameplay and the middle levels were meh. I never understood the credits either, probably was meant to have some sort of ingame currency that didn't get implemented but left the credits there as an additional form of score?

Makes ya almost wanna dig up the identities of the developers and be like "Hey you know this game you made x amount of years ago..."

Kinda like the time I walked up to the creator of Chakan the Forever Man and told him the Sega Genesis adaptation of his comic was hard as balls. He told me he himself couldn't beat it and he met very few people who could.

Yes, I think there is a lot of wasted potential in this game. For me collecting credits was never a goal in this game, having bigger score don't give any profits in exploration next levels.

Yes, sometimes I do that and sometimes I got answers for my questions. Many developers are still active, they work in different companies or they are freelancers.

I hear about Chakan, but never play it. When I was younger I was Amiga user. Sometime ago I have seen long-play of that game on Cubex YouTube channel. Looks hard.

Finally, a drawing based on Skeleton Krew! This is a very nice drawing of Rib! While I've played the SEGA version when SEGA Channel was around back in the day, I somehow got myself hooked after watching a longplay that featured the CD32 version.

I used to play the hell out of Skeleton Krew and other games on Sega Channel all the time... granted it wasn't till I drew this pic and upon researching the game that I have come to the conclusion-

This game is freakin Metal. Like wow. Everything about this game is Metal. If Metal was made into a game, it'd be this. Freakin Metal!

and Thanks!

I'd say the most metal game would be Brutal Legend, but Skeleton Krew is pretty damn close >D

Also, and I almost forgot to mention this part, Skeleton Krew could've also been an awesome graphic novel (or fancomic, whichever). Plus Skeleton Krew makes me think of Korn music as well, preferably from their "Life is Peachy" and "Follow the Leader" albums.

This game actually looks kinda cool. It sort of reminds me of Smash TV, and the characters look like something out of the cover art of an Iron Maiden album.

Haha I know right? It plays a little like Smash TV in a way, with the 2 axis moving and shooting gameplay.
