The overall impact of the piece on me is quite strong. The soft water colours and chosen palette reinforce the down turned sad look of the subject.

Your technique is well done, with thought given to the strength of form focused around the face and becoming more subdued elsewhere as to draw our focus to the subjects expression. Highlights to the strands of hair releases the work from the page and adds depth to the scene as well ass adding a sense of delicacy.
My only criticism is that the anatomy of the subject's right eye does not look quite right with the size appearing slightly larger than the nearer left eye. The directions the eyes are looking are also different (you can see this if you cover each half of the face). I like the direction of the right eye, looking down and as if peering through time itself, while the left eye is more focused and looking forward.

I was looking at the eyes as well, but I'm thinking that it has more to do with the angle the head is turned and that one eye appears slightly more closed, making it look not quite as big as the other. Just my observation!

Absolutely adore the pale look within the piece. It definitely captures the 'illness' that is within the title. The color mixture around the eyes was the right choice and it's something that I haven't seen very often in your pieces. I also like how you highlighted that area and kept the lips rather soft, which creates balance within the whole piece.
As usual, your technique is simply outstanding, the color scheme suits the title perfectly and the highlights keep it fresh and modern. May I also ask, do you trace the sketch from a projector or do you do draw it yourself before you go into watercolor?
