Description 2015

240x153x22cm

Sixth in the "Fractures" series.

Ever since I decided to take the plunge and pursue art to my utmost capabilities, it's as though it has been cleansing almost every aspect of my life, purging the system if you will. Cutting all manner of unnecessary drivel to truly crystallize my resolve. Coupled with a time consuming day job, I've been effectively working 70-80 hour weeks for quite a while now. I would be lying if I said that I'm not tired, but I can't remember a time when I've been happier.

A while ago I was offered a pile of aluminum piping for free and as soon as I saw them this idea popped into my head. I hesitated to actualize it due to it's size. Glad I managed to muster up the courage necessary to tackle something as demanding as this. I'm very happy with the result.

Ingredients:
Birch Plywood
Pine
Glue
Yarn
Birch Branches/Twigs
Fiberglass
Steel Mesh
Spray Paint
Aluminum Piping
Copper Wire
Baking Powder
Black Iron Oxide
Iron Grindings (for the rust)

Be sure to take a look at the closeups for there is lots to see!

EDIT: Wow! A DD? For me? This is the most pleasant of surprises! Thank you so much, everybody for all the faving, watching and viewing. I apologize for not being able to thank you all personally, but rest assured I truly appreciate all the attention and interest you have bestowed upon me and my art!Β

EDIT2: Here is the making-of video for this particular piece!Β youtu.be/0tf28afZDd4 I hope you enjoy it!

incredible! it's hard to describe, but the way the shadows are cast on the wall really add something to the overall effect of this piece. again, your sense of how to realize your artistic vision is truly inspiring. i'm in awe.

Thank you so much, Les! I really appreciate the feedback. I didn't think about the shadows until I was photographing this. They make it look a bit denser which is always good in my mind! I really enjoyed making a big piece like this. Had to make a conscious effort to stop myself from worrying about the size and where to put it when finished etc. It was a great feeling to just create without thinking about all the boring practicalities!Β

Ahjotuli In reply to Jaffa-Tealc [2015-10-01 16:52:40 +0000 UTC]

That's right! I sprinkle it on and then apply some vinegar with a squirt bottle. These combined produce a chemical reaction and leaves the surface with a nice bumpy texture.

wow! so beautiful and intriguing i'm impressed every time i see all the work and the materials you put in your Artworks! Did you burn (/purge) it this time? ^^ i'm pretty sure you did but i would like to be 100% sure lol
beautiful awesome work!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Ahjotuli In reply to crypted99 [2015-09-24 18:16:11 +0000 UTC]

Thank you very much, Max! No, nothing has been burned. The black color on the frame portion is just woodglue mixed with black iron oxide (which also acts as a structural component) and on the "web" part I also used some black spray paint. Although... I've been meaning to try burning something for this series. I bet that could give some interesting textures...
