To tell you the truth, I don't know how long Jack Kirby was using this version after the gray armor, but it was changed in about 3 issues of The Avengers to the body hugging red and gold armor which evolved through the 1970's and 80's. I was trying to give what little information that I had to work with a more glitzy "spin". Remember that the comic books of the 1960's were done quickly, there was flat coloring, and it was all a sort of visual shorthand. I was thinking of using rivets all over the armor (I've seen it done!).
