Description Origin Prompt 8 - Their Haunt - show us the area of their boundary where they feel most at home

It was hard to pinpoint exactly when it started. Some refused to believe it started at all, but others knew. There were disappearances that just occurred because of bad luck or bad weather, and then there was the Dune Ache. The best prepared veteran merchant could start a trek through an area they knew well, but it wouldn't matter. That stretch of sand was no longer safe. Empty, vast arid skies would fill with a torrent of sand and then, when the sun was only seen in passing and the wind tugged at you, there was only one hope left. If you didn't see the lights, you still had a chance. You could still force your way through to survival. Once the orbs came into view and danced through the shred of visibility remaining, the Dune Ache had you. Nightmare's brother and death's lover, the ache would make its way into your mind and despite the chaos and urgency swirling about, force an inescapable urge to stop. To rest. To close one's eyes and try for sleep. A sleep from which few ever rose. Skeptics will still just call it a bad storm. No orbs of light - just glints of sun off the sparkling sand. Those who take the long path around the desert know. They know that something stirs, and that only clearest skies and calmest days could tempt travel.

This esk has become a mythos in the small towns surrounding its haunt. It has a thorough patrol of the dunes and keeps a close watch on those who dare to enter. With an unresolved, mysterious spite for human kind, it keeps its haunt clear of travelers with forceful tactics, using its dream maker enchantment to force sleep at dangerous times. The storms that roll through its haunt are caused naturally, but the esk takes advantage of them to cripple the efforts of those trying to make it safely through. These storms are where it feels most at home, navigating them with ease and uncomfortable in quiet areas. It is a malevolent esk, a force of nature, and it can be very elusive to those who seek it out.
