I'm loving this painting.
Very strong and skillful.
Don't agree with your point of view.
I have personally slaughtered many pigs; My grandparents are from countryside and I used to help them during summer when i was kid.
There is nothing terrible in killing the animal.
Only thing scary is little lamb - they sound like people screaming...

Not only a powerful message but a powerful piece of artwork. I really appreciate what you have in your gallery altogether but I have to say that by far this is my personal favorite, partly due to its starkness and partly due to its message.
Your description of the artwork is restrained and intelligent and it's really a breath of fresh air to see such an emotional point being made with maturity and grace, while the artwork speaks for itself.
Good job once again.

Wow, very effective picture indeed!
I'm vegan myself and know of the cruelty these animals suffer all too well. It's such a shame that people simply turn a blind eye to it, pretend they aren't responsible. But It's not natural, it's not humane and no longer should it be "normal".
It's well and truely time people opened their eyes and did something.
Well done on the picture, hopefully it will encourage people to think twice about where their food actually comes from.

Eating meat is the circle of life, uh, technically. I do eat it. Food chain and whatnot. But, factory farming is NOT the way the world is supposed to work. So I'm with you on this one.

My goodness that poor man's face is sinking in from lack of protein!
Thank goodness for the pig standing in front of him. Some protein from the meat he'll eat will fix him right up! ^^
Bravo on your one panel comic.

I am however planning a series of photographs supporting CND-type events.
Im just trying to find how to go about that.

Vivienne-Mercier [2007-11-07 04:19:43 +0000 UTC]
I once saw a video of cows in a slaughterhouse. They were forced into this metal box-like thing, where they had their throats cut and their tracheas ripped out, then they were dumped out of the box into a small pen where they thrashed around in agony, unable to scream as they were forced, with electric prods, into another chamber to be butchered alive. Until I saw that, I always thought animals were killed quickly in some way; now I know that most of them are brutally tortured to death. How can anyone work at such a job and see this happening, day after day, and not be moved by it? I guess they learn to distance themselves from the animals' pain by pretending that animals don't have feelings. Subjects like this really force one to consider what it is to be humane--and what it is to be human.
Also, there is a well-known connection between animal cruelty and human cruelty. People who abuse animals often abuse other people, as well, so it is no wonder that the ones who make fun of animal suffering also show no compassion towards the suffering of their fellow humans.

I used to think the same thing about them getting killed quickly, until like you, I saw some slaughterhouse footage.
The thing about slaughterhouse and factory farm workers is, a lot of them are very poor. Many of them are migrant workers. They don't work there because they like the job, but because they need the job. And if you read Schlosser's book, "Fast Food Nation," he talks a lot about how the workers themselves are treated very badly. They get horrible injuries and no health insurance -- they just get fired. So the whole meat industry -- it's terribly inhumane to both animals and workers. As you said, there is definitely a connection between human and animal cruelty.

Now this is put together very well! I especially love the red, even though it's blood. I'm def. angry as well when people say that issues like these are not important, they keep on doing it only because they said that God said it was "okay." What they don't understand is that I highly doubt it that God would want his creatures treated the way they were, even if I don't believe fully in a religious way that there is a God.

I'm so glad you like it! Yes, I think you're right about God. A God who is truly merciful would want us to act with kindness and compassion. It's well known that those who are cruel to animals are often cruel to human beings as well.

Affective image, not doubt, but some how drawings (general) seem to lack the impact of photos, I think its because anyone could draw something *well, within reason and intent* but a photo you have been there with the smell of blood in your nose and the innocent squealing in your ears... So to speak.
"If you love the animals called pets, why do you eat the animals called dinner?"
That quote really makes me angry and personally would put me against any animal rights campaign because I refused to be made into a bad person because I follow my basic *animal* instinct and eat meat. No one should be preached at for their life style choices.

*months later... I return to deviantART...*
I certainly won't preach about your choice to like the color orange or dislike the color purple. But when your "lifestyle choices" involve causing harm to others, then I will speak out. For this reason I do not mind educating people about sweatshops, modern day slavery, and yes, factory farming. Nobody wants to hear that their shirts were sewn by nine-year-old children or that their porkchop was an animal who was boiled alive, but it sucks much more for the kid or for the porkchop, yes? I think it is worth saying something.
I should also mention that I was a meat-eater growing up. In fact I ate almost nothing but meat until I was about 14 years old. Then I looked at images of factory farms and took a long look at myself, and realized I didn't want to be responsible for that kind of suffering. If you find it easier to close your eyes and look away, then do so. Nobody can stop you from ignoring it... but I think it is important we consider the consequences of the things we do, and so I will keep pointing these things out.

I eat meat that is organically reared and hand killed and yes, I know that's the case, I live in the English countryside, my dad was a farmer and knows countless other farmers, nothing I eat in that was raised or killed in a factory. So I am not turning a blind eye to it, I'm doing my part, however small, but I refuse to stop eating meat and can't help but take offense to being told what I am doing is wrong. We are a meat eating species and I agree people need to be told the facts and have their faces stuck in the horrid truth of it all, but not told not told to do.
Do I need to say my parents are viciously anti hurt and animal rights campaigners and I have been brought up around live stock of all kinds?
Plus, I have many issues with what I can eat due to a stomach ulcer and bacterial infection, meat is a rare thing that doesn't make me be violently ill and I'm a size 6 already, I'm afraid I couldn't stop if I wanted to.
