Description I didn't know wether this should have gone under fanart, Fantasy, or Sci-Fi.... but I decided on Sci-fi. It's a Tau Firewarrior from Warhammer 40,000 (40K) I just really like the armor they wear, not to mention their race has a very nifty backstory to go along with it. Drawn and shaded with pencil and colored in Photoshop.

You just made the Tau look immense. And they already were.

This looks fantastic. It really does. I particularly like the bare head illustration, you did a fantastic job.

As an aside, the only thing that stands out is more of a background insight. The stock on the pulse rifle is drawn as hollow here, but in the land of the Tau, even the elongated Pulse Rifle is a bullpup design, so this area would be filled with ammunition (it is confusing because of the area infront of the trigger that looks like an ammunition cartridge... it is more akin to a hand guard).

Great Job, Really

Only one thing wrong. The feet should be the brown of the cloth, and the "hooves" black. Why? Tau dont have hooves. Those things you see are there equivalent of boots. Other than that little thing that eats away at me from the inside, fine job yah did!

the Tau actually have Hooves.

Because you're associated with something does not give you superior knowledge of that field, just the same with the accomplishments of an ethnicity and an individual of that ethnicity. The reason I say they do not actually have hooves is because it is unspecified in the codex, but is in the Black Library publication "Xenology", which includes an autopsy and interview with a Tau. The autopsy shows three toed feet, but suggests that said feet are likely to have evolved from hooves. It also goes on to say that their feet aren't as robust than the rest of their body, possibly hinting at a need for uniform footwear, which would explain why all to nearly all tau have black "hoof" boots.

i too have the Xenology, but her picture may have been before they evolved to having 3 toe'd feet.

Wait... I'm not sure what to make of that sentence. You mean after?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

scoober1111 In reply to PassiveBerzerker [2011-09-11 13:44:42 +0000 UTC]

no, i mean before, seeing as her picture is BEFORE they had 3 toes instead of hooves.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

PassiveBerzerker In reply to scoober1111 [2011-09-12 23:30:56 +0000 UTC]

The time they had hooves would have been around the time the Imperium first documented the Tau, and as that book is set at a later date, and for the fact that i'm still not sure what you're trying to get at with what you have stated, I don't know that would be much possible for this one Tau to happen to have toes while all others have hooves. Perhaps you could find a few with callused feet resembling hooves because of a birth defect, similar to how some people are born with a nub of a tail, but that's one hell of a bound.

You cleared up what you were saying your past post, but that doesn't mean it makes any more sense than before. Your assertion is quite... abstract, in that it's nearly a straw-man.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

scoober1111 In reply to PassiveBerzerker [2011-09-14 00:13:03 +0000 UTC]

really? your googling words you hope i wont understand... and that is what my original post was about... this being a Pre-3 toed Tau era. and how is my "assertion quite... abstract" how do i have a-

Quote:'Repeated against the opposition until either the argument dries up or the opposition changes they choices "quite..." A brief summary of this art'/end quote

if you do try to use big word please research them a realise what they actually mean. your sentence is flawed in many ways and i dont know why you decided to continue arguing with me when i in fact was talking about a different time period regarding the Tau soldier that this artist has drawn, and is probably annoyed that this argument is taking up space on their Devient comments for this amazing picture.

Try again if need be i will just correct you again.

So you like Warhammer 40k AND Monster Hunter?

Lol the Tau always got me confused, for a start there
face colour is blue
but what is there skin colour
is it that brown or is that just a thin protective cloth?
Is there shield guarding above the hooves, the models say
no dark crusade says yes ...
I used to collect them but got too expensive and i got
slightly bored, so i moved onto the games and am now
i complete dawn of war fanatic >D

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

PassiveBerzerker In reply to Hei-Shima [2010-07-02 18:22:53 +0000 UTC]

There skin is meant to be grey with a blue tint (like Space Wolves)
That brown is their fatigues, so yes, cloth.
It varies. If you want them to, go ahead and throw them on. Its all to make them more individual. Also, its not always good to go on what the models show. The broadside, for example, is described as being bigger and more heavily armored than a crisis suit, yet uses the same model, but with big guns. a more accurate depiction would be Forge Worlds broadside (Relic used FW's for the broadside in Dow).
Also, they have no hooves. Those are essentially tau boots. Three toes.
Here is a [link] to a Black Library book on xeno anatomy. It covers Tau.

i've learned a lot of warhammer today and your Tau writing under the Tau logo says Bryce, but is pronounce "brike", because a C is pronounced like K in Tau, so it should actually be an S since i understand Tau is phonetic based, like Romanji/Katakana

went from admirer to critic in 1 day lol

still think the drawing is fuckin' awesome though

wow, good drawing; it will serve for my warhammer fanart. It's a shame that Tau are losing their essence [greater good and stuff]... The larger is their rule over the galaxy, closer are they to become a tyranny, the same way that humans became a F**n totalitarist Empire.
