Description EDIT: I had to blow up the picture after making it cuz it was a tad small, which ruined the smudging to soften his markings. I had to re-smudge everything, including the shading, which was never meant to be smudged... The original, cleaner version is in my scraps here: [link]

FRICK YEAH I finally finished something, albeit a tiny headshot, BUT STILL, FRICK YES.

Krie is a meerkat, the son of "Tiny" Tantrum. He's compassionate with roaring emotion, just like his mother, except that he feels EVERYTHING strongly- not just anger.

I like this kid thus far. His design wasn't planned at all- just kindof happened, but I ended up really liking it. The only things that are missing are his black feet and a black, chinese dragon "tattoo" up his back.

I also tried a completely new style of shading that I really, really like. Looks much better than my failed attempts at gradients and cell shading.

I am feeling proud right now.

This looks gorgeous, Emma!! I LOVE that new shading technique you mentioned; looks more realistic I me. (: That design around his eyes is brilliant as well!

You've the right to feel proud, this little dude looks pretty cool. Lol makes me feel bad about the little crappy sketch that I just threw up. Ah well, glad you found a style of shading that you like, that was one of the toughest parts for me. Gonna have to give drawing him a try sometime, that'd be fun :3

Thanks a lot dude This probably wouldn't have happened without you and Britt being able to relate to me and helping me feel better. Just talking about it helped me gain some confidence.

Yeah, shading has easily been my biggest challenge in all of my art. Shading and water, I'd say. Oceans are a bitch to paint...

And don't worry about sketching, that was all my muse for one day haha. Sketches for a while.

Anytime friend :3 Always good to talk about your problems with others, if nothing else then it helps you sort out your thoughts.

Oceans are gonna be a while away for me I think, I can't even make a puddle pffft. Funnily enough, shading is one of my favorite parts of drawing, it's just a matter of finding the right style and method. Still not even sure I've got the right one for me, but it works well enough so far so we'll see.

Yeah, I think I was just trying really hard to perfect a style that doesn't work for me... I can tell that I'll be ale to get the hang of this one quickly, though. Dude, oceans suck. I've drawn like three, two that I've never posted because my hard drive fried a few months ago, and no matter how many times I try tutorials, it doesn't come out looking like water. At all. Haha. Practice practice practice though, I suppose! Maybe I should speed-paint some scenery one day.

Yeah, using a style you can't use comfortably is always a bad idea, not to mention it usually ends up looking worse than if you just said balls to it and drew how you wanted XP

Lol, this is why I almost never follow art tutorials. They always confuse and irritate me more than help XP Speed-painting scenery could be fun though, I'll have to give that a try sometime myself.
