Description Here we are with the first artwork of ’07! A night elf priestess.

I’m making it my quest this year to retrain my mind when it comes to colour, because as ~rtil pointed out, (I could use all the good criticism I can get) I haven’t been able to see past using black tones for shades in most of my previous works… so it was a habit in need of breaking. Overall, I’m happy with how this turned out, despite having an adventure and a half with Ai’s hair. I’ll remind her to step out of the wind next time. XD

Ailysia Illynae is - © Kristopher P. Love // Night Elves - © Warcraft/Blizzard.

May take awhile... much like this reply.   Haven't had much interest in the Warcraft scene in years, so my night elf characters don't see much attention anymore...

Ailysia is really beautiful! I absolutely love how you did the flow of her hair and the dress that she's wearing. The shading is really awesome on her as well.

Keep it up!

Excellent job! I feel this has a full story behind it.

By the way, what colouring tools do you use?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Aikurisu In reply to TolkienkookAD [2007-05-28 06:21:42 +0000 UTC]

A Wacom Graphire 4 G-630. It's the cheapest tablet to buy nowadays. As for the comp program I use with it-- it's just Photoshop VII or, as of late, the later CS2 variant.

Thanks for the comment and fav, btw. You're right about there being more to this than what's in the description too. She's supposed to be on a small private airship; owned by an eccentric young half-elf lord/paladin with an engineering knack... beyond what WoW allows for the trade. (It would be nice if engineers could build flying mounts actually...) Anyway, he was my main character back in the days when I played WoW, last June.

yeah, that's loooking great! hand, hair and face look great. something about her feels rather inhuman, might be the texture of her skin. but regardless i like the direction you're going in

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Aikurisu In reply to rtil [2007-01-19 15:15:52 +0000 UTC]

Thanks man! So is it the colour of the skin that looks inhuman, or something more indepth?

rtil In reply to Aikurisu [2007-01-19 20:44:35 +0000 UTC]

proably moreso the colors, i'ev never seen anyone toned like that in real life so for me it is like a foreign skin

I'll have to show ya an ingame screenie then. It's the lighest neutral colour from the race.

Nono, dont remind her to step out of the wind!nonono >.

Also, her hand is very well drawed (and we all know how difficult hands are to draw :S) The tattos on her face looks also very very good. But what i like the most its her clothes: the folds are perfect specially on the bright pink undertunic. And i cannot forget to comment how beautiful that butterfly looks o.Ô

Her chin perhaps its a bit narrow but the rest its absolutely beautiful

Aikurisu In reply to Alhema [2007-01-19 17:16:39 +0000 UTC]

Hehe, thanks Oli. I still think that if I ever do draw her again, she'll be indoors.

I changed her chin too since you last saw it, so I hope it's remotely fixed. XD

Just when I think I'm out, my brother sends me a copy of WoW and a 60 day card and pulls me back in. If I have enough cash left over from buying a graphics tablet I'm planning on buying the BC Special Edition too. I'm such a model consumer

The colors look great, the clothes have real depth and the work you put into the wisps of hair really shows. The hair resting on her chest however may look a bit too solid compared to the detailed strands blowing in the wind.

Also I'd suggest that the face is a little too thin, making it look angular and a tad unflattering.

They're minor criticisms - as a whole the image looks great and really captures the gentle tranquil nature of the Night Elves. Ever submitted your WoW work to the Blizzard website?

Aikurisu In reply to Lord-Of-The-Guns [2007-01-19 05:50:23 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, but I don't think they'd be interested. This is the only artwork I haven't sent in to them yet, so I might keep it that way. The others before it obviously weren't all that good in their eyes to go in the gallery, so I can't see how this would fair any better. XD

Anyhoo, thanks for the comment! And I agree with what you said about her face, so I did a little extra work to it overnight and updated with the new here. It was bothering me for a while too before you noted about it, but I hope I managed to fix it.

Really? I've had a look through their gallery and while I don't like to bag on other artists, theres plenty of stuff there worse than yours. Oh well, their loss.

JerikEricson [2007-01-15 18:53:41 +0000 UTC]

Very beautifully done. Priests aren't exactly my favorite class. Night Elves are best as either Druids, Hunters, or Rogues

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Aikurisu In reply to JerikEricson [2007-01-19 03:25:17 +0000 UTC]

Heh, thanks. And while I can agree that those other classes are probably best suited to the NEs, I don't mind the style of a priest compared to them. That, and I never really got indepth about using a druid or rouge before I quit playing the game. Out of all, I'd say my favourite classes were between the Paladin, Priest, and Hunter. I only wished that I had a faster internet speed though, because it was hell trying to attack hand to hand in the BGs. My only lvl 60 was cursed for that. XD

Eh, but they're too cold now... but I guess that depends on how we play as them. Did you see that nice little movie Blizzard put together for the launch of BC? Gotta love the polymorph in effect and that Orc warrior taking down a couple of Naga.

I think this looks wonderful! The longer ends of her hair turned out especially pretty, and while for some reason pink just doesn't seem to suit that woman, I still really love the color scheme; it's very calming and pretty. Great job as a first-step beyond what you're used to doing!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Aikurisu In reply to Biskuits [2007-01-15 11:09:40 +0000 UTC]

Thanks, El! As for the pink fashion for her, I dunno. I could have gone with a green that I had originally intended, but I felt it stuck out too much against the rest of the scheme. Still, with the pink, it looks like a nightgown to me. XD

...bit hard to crit someone better than you, don't feel right.

Mate, this looks awesome, the softer than usual tones are great. mmm glowy.

Aikurisu In reply to wraith11 [2007-01-14 07:43:54 +0000 UTC]

Yus. I don't think I can even recall when it was the last time I've done softer tones. This could be a first. XD

As for what you said about critics... I don't believe that. I find that even those who do not know art can still pick up on things the artist can not. Sometimes it might not exactly be right, but it can still point in the right direction of a mistake that otherwise may not be easy to find without it.

Aikurisu In reply to MegaMako [2007-01-14 07:36:32 +0000 UTC]

Thanks!

As for WoW: BC? I'm not all that keen on it. I think the new lore was what hurt my liking on how the world's direction was heading. It's not all that bad, but it's way below par from the usual I've grown to expect from Blizzard. I just wish that they can find it in their very rich hearts to make a solo rpg eventually, because WoW's storyline is hardly indepth anymore, save for the juicy lore they've had built from all its predecessors.

That said, I still like the game, but I'll need more reason than WoW: BC to bring me back.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DarkKnightGafgar In reply to Aikurisu [2007-01-15 04:08:16 +0000 UTC]

Airships are all made by Goblins, and we know how that turns out.

Aikurisu In reply to DarkKnightGafgar [2007-01-15 06:42:19 +0000 UTC]

Ah, but you forget that the gnomes and dwarves have their Gyrochopters and Steam tanks. What's stopping an eccentric noble (with a lot of free time on his hands...) from adopting his understanding of all these things into a vastly superior airborne transport, without the dangerous antics created from the side of the goblins?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DarkKnightGafgar In reply to Aikurisu [2007-01-15 15:41:42 +0000 UTC]

Gnomes are just as bad as Goblins, and you are I both know that Humans prefer the study of magic, Dwarves simply aren't that smart, and the Night Elves are all tree-huggers (and likely tree-shaggers, which is a highly disturbing thought) that hate engineering with a passion. The Blood Elves spend their time eating Imps and probably being emo in a corner somewhere, us Forsaken are still working on our New Plague, and if you suggest that an Orc can design a safe flying ship I'm going to laugh in your face. And I won't even talk about Taurenburgers.

Now, a Troll might be able to whip something up...
