Description Concept art of Arden Wraithbane’s third blade, Ardemus.

It is unknown how or when Arden first acquired his third blade, Ardemus. Despite this, anyone who has seen it are forewarned that is not a blade in the usual sense. It is a relic of the past; possibly a weapon that miraculously dates as far back to the Era of Chaos... thus making it irreplaceable in today’s world.

It acts much like a mage's staff, therefore allowing its wielder to focus and extend their skill. To what extent, few can comprehend... though it can ward spells and redirect them to those foolish enough to cast. It's supposedly indestructible to conventional weaponry too and rings harmoniously when it comes in contact with water, to the point that it soothes those in closeness.

Wheee… and that’s all of Arden’s blades drawn. I’m kinda proud with how this one turned out in the end. No reference, and done in... well... today anyway.

looks pretty good, but the coloring on the blade looks like you assassinated the blue man group.

Because if a goodguy had this, i'm sure a badguy will be right on his tail trying to get it.

Love the shade of the blade, very unusual.

Nice! I like how the glowing effect doesn't look like it's going at all. Kind of like paint, or ink. Very cool looking

Thanks.

I definitely need to revisit this blade concept sometime though. I feel I could have drawn it much better...

I think you're imagining things, I don't see anything bad about it

Mayhap, but it's more to do with the quality of it in certain places I know I could work on more. Especially with the pommel. I feel like I should almost resize this work so I can add in better details...

Resizing to make things bigger is tricky, good luck with that if you do decide to do so!

Hehe, thanks. Well, it'll probably end up being my first tutorial at any rate. Just not sure when.

This blade is exquisite. It looks rather organic though. Was this intentional? It looks like the blade was grown rather than forged (especially where the blade meets the hilt).

It's likely this blade was forged not in the conventional sense. Before the Era of Chaos came to an end, angels would have forged material blades through will alone and gave this knowledge to the humans. It's unlikely this knowledge survived after that period, though, so blades like Ardemus are considered impossible to create nowadays. lol, but anyhoo, if you look really closely, the hilt is in the artistic image of a seated woman with a large open book on her lap. Her skirt blends with the shape of the blade too as it gradually moves down, like she's sitting peacefully by a stream.

i think the glowing blue stuff should have been around the outside of the blade and not all around it. it kinda looks like someone spilled kool-aid on it. still, it is a very ornate and cool design.

I'm confused. It almost sounded like you said two things that contradicted each other... around the outside of the blade and not all around it?

rtil In reply to Aikurisu [2008-09-04 20:10:55 +0000 UTC]

i mean like not on top of it as well

If you mean there being blue on the surface of the blade, it's supposed to be to bring out the water elemental properties in it. Only on the blade itself though. Anything above the hilt hasn't got it.

I am going to respectfully disagree.

Too often when a sword is supposed to be 'enchanted' there is a perimeter glow. Sort of like a border. But, when something actually glows, it is diffuse enough to cover the entirety of the object...not just a border.

However, having said that, I think that a slight variation of hue and saturation, or perhaps the addition of some complimentary colors, in regards to the aura would go a long way towards preventing the 'spilled kool-aid' look.

I dunno.

it's beautiful, I'd really like to see a tutorial, or a WIP shot of this if possible, you really seem to have a knack for doing this really well.

Aikurisu In reply to Morgalahan [2008-09-03 15:40:19 +0000 UTC]

Thanks. And I'm not too sure if this is really a good blade to begin with as a tutorial. Took more layers than I originally anticipated, and they were more all over the place by the end, so it'd be a little confusing to follow...
