Description There's a chance the title may not be so misleading by the time I fully complete this piece, although I'm not giving away any surprises as to what will be involved. That's the reason why it's a work in progress. I just can't make up my mind what theme to ultimately go with, but there will be an emphasis of... well, imbalance.

Enjoy the undisturbing background for now anyway.

Beautiful sky. I took my time scrolling down and then scrolled up again once more for good measure Looks like that cloud photography paid off! Did you use any of the photos for reference?

The cliff top is great too but the transition from the sky to horizon line is too jarring. Those mountains could probably benefit from being lighter on top - snow capped peaks? But if not that even some lighter tones and details would give them a bit more depth. Otherwise excellent work - looking forward to the finished piece!

Thanks, mate! And nah, I basically just drew the sky without reference. Didn't really have a clear idea either on how to go about it, as I began drawing this from the ground up. Everything else just kinda fell into place.

I'll give the mountains some more thought too!

Aikurisu In reply to elyeli [2009-05-05 14:08:05 +0000 UTC]

Thanks, and I may just keep it like this. Either that or I'll bring out two or three versions of it. The other versions would sorta focus more on story elements that for some reason have the same point of scenery in mind.

Awesomest...sky...ever...

Looks good mate, love the really strong vertical component to it and how the land-masses are sort of bracketed in cloud.

Just one thing though: could I suggest warming the greens a bit? At the moment they're possibly a bit to vivid to fit that lighting.

Aikurisu In reply to wraith11 [2009-05-05 14:04:38 +0000 UTC]

Hmm, I knew something about the greens didn't sit well... thanks for helping clarrify my suspicions. x_x So how's it look now?

Glad you like how it's came out too mate. Originally, the strong vertical liking was to give me plenty of room for an atmospheric battle between a line of battleships... but I just couldn't get it to mesh with the scenery as I wanted.

wraith11 In reply to Aikurisu [2009-05-06 12:10:03 +0000 UTC]

To me it's still a bit vivid, I'd think about making it a bit more yellow or warmer. However I tend to like warm colour schemes as well so...

Mmm... Battleships. Annoyingly, ever since Honor I can't help but follow that thought with: even if they are obsolete

Aikurisu In reply to wraith11 [2009-05-21 13:13:37 +0000 UTC]

Bah, I think the Honor universe takes a lot of fun out of that their more standard definition. Call me a romantic, but I prefer seeing vessels get into close quarters, like as seen in Battlestar Galactic, Macross or Homeworld. Take note of how I left out Gundam, because it really is stupid seeing one-manned mechs wiping out entire fleets... unless they have powerful weaponry that justifies it without annoying stock footage.

wraith11 In reply to Aikurisu [2009-05-24 04:05:35 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, big ships beating the crap out of each other still makes for better visuals... but I think the tactical environment of the Honorverse is far more interesting. Battleships are only obselete there because someone built Dreadnaughts and Super-Dreds... so now battlehsips are really too weak to lie "In The Wall" but too slow to fill cruiser roles. They do however make resonable rear area space denial ships, but not to the point where any first-rate navy would bother building them anymore.

Haha, good point on Gundam too... still reckon you should watch Nanoha. She's powerful but I doubt even her strongest attackes could kill one of their cruisers (at least not all at once).

lol, hey, it's anime. I'm sure they'll figure a way eventually to make the attack more climatic and make the enemy crap themselves in the process.

Can't go past fighter support too. Wait... come to think on it, I completely forgot Last Exile! Then again... that's not really set out in space...

lol, well for some reason I just can't find the drive to draw people these days... and I wanted to draw something unlike my weapon vibe of late.

*gives Kris a poke with a stick* C'mon! I know you can do it! You've done it so many times before now, and rather well in my humble opinion. Try this, just to get warmed up, do some fan art or something. Paint something where you just have fun, even if it's something you've done quite often before now. Something you dont have to think too much about. Some half naked night elf lady should do the trick! We always need more of those

Aikurisu In reply to Morgalahan [2009-05-21 16:10:33 +0000 UTC]

lol, maybe.

Eh, unfortunately, I still am in the doldrums a bit. Just thinking about my current situation with my art is enough to cause it. But I guess sooner or later I'll find a way to get back on my feet. ... at least for a little bit. XD
