Description It was only a couple of days ago when I realised to my unplanned horror that I almost forgot my 7th birthday here at DA...

... so needless to say I've been busy. XD Some lore to this will follow soon, I promise! That and possibly a follow up to this scene.

Thank you. As for the women... the one with the red hair actually happens to be a somewhat lithe man.

Hehe, 'tis okay. You weren't the first to initially think him as a woman anyway.

This is stunning!!! I Great colors. The subdued colors are really convey the storm well. And then the man's red hair really adds a pop of color without being distracting. Then the tilt of the picture is interesting. The way you use texture is also very pleasing. Finally, you do the human form very well. *__*

I love the rain effect, and the subtle highlights are fantastic! I have great respect for people who make digital painting look so easy.

Thanks! As for making digital painting look easy... I'll admit this one did aid in that theory. But others... not so much.

I can't get over just how much I love this. It reminds me of something quite personal i guess. I just love the atmosphere, the magical air about it and how it seems like one of those unforgettable moments.

Have you gone and put Cat in the rain again?

Beautiful Kris. Poster-quality.

Oddly enough the thing that draws my attention is the sword stuck in the bank off to the side. I don't think these dames are as defenceless as the posing suggests

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Aikurisu In reply to Maddy02 [2010-11-20 10:29:06 +0000 UTC]

That would be true... if the redhead happened to actually be a dame. So no, Cat's been spared the weather this time too.

Hmm... poster-quality... I guess it could make a good bookmark with its dimensions...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Maddy02 In reply to Aikurisu [2010-11-20 23:51:34 +0000 UTC]

*eyes narrow* a red-head, not Cat, of a youthful aesthetic.

Rune?

*scrolls up*

hmm... maybe not Rune...

Well, not Cat anyway, but I'm still waiting to see her in the sun. And yes, bookmark, wall hanging, whatever, I think (as you have steadfastly ignored my advice to turn your talents towards the clothing industry and costume design) you ought to start looking at prints and selling pictures/prints you don't plan to use for a book later (if ever).

and yes dear, I know you're far from mercenary, and it might be a rather unpalatable concept to you -but considering the attention you've had there's a fair amount of interest in your works and you could probably expect a decent enough return.

(It's a roundabout compliment, but basically I think you're worth paying for )

Aikurisu In reply to Maddy02 [2010-12-01 14:36:54 +0000 UTC]

Glad you think so.

lol, to be honest, I wish I was more mercenary-minded. Even after all this time you would think I would have done something more in promoting my work, but here I am, still procrastinating...

Anyhoo, as for the characters in thie art... they're relatively new. A friend inspired me to write about them after I drew that sword in the background, which is this one: [link]

So long story short, there would be a lot of history behind that blade... if I ever get around to writing it.

Out of curiosity: is it ever sunny in your pictures?

Awesome and atmospheric as always mate. Great work on the trees in the background. I know it sounds stupid, but I always find anything from the connifer/pine families of trees a pain in the arse to draw. So, taking notes on your simple but incredibly effective brush strokes.

In other news: being a little weirded out by Windows7. I'm sure Phil's getting sick of my calls for tech-support

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Aikurisu In reply to wraith11 [2010-11-20 10:24:59 +0000 UTC]

lol, I'm usually too afraid to ask Phil questions nowadays. Poor bloke probably gets an eye twitch when I do.

Seriously, though, thanks mate! Glad you find the trees interesting as well. (If you like, maybe I could give a quick tutorial on the basics of them sometime?)

Interesting observation, btw-- about me focusing on more overcast notions. I guess it could stem from my love for rainy weather, yet I've always preferred more muted colours for my palette. Like grey, silver, etc-- not in the sense of being lifeless compared to louder choices, but because they have a better sense of purity and or calmness about them.

wraith11 In reply to Aikurisu [2010-11-22 03:27:27 +0000 UTC]

Sometimes I think anyone who winds up in a tech-support role gets that twitch...

Tutorial would be cool.

See now, I love rainy weather too... as long as I can observe it from inside somewhere dry. Unforunately that's not always possible. Sunny weather is far more practical

Perhaps, but it doesn't bring me awesome flood photos.

Speaking of, ol' Daly Creek's bridge went under last week. Gotta love November's rainfall...

I really like the mood of this ... thanks for sharing it!

So ... you have planned horrors in addition to the unplanned ones?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Aikurisu In reply to Tizrak [2010-11-20 08:28:57 +0000 UTC]

Nah... although I wonder what I would have came up with if I had a few weeks to prepare instead of a few days...

Eh, then again, I'm noticing this peculiar trend where my quickest works end up the most liked.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Tizrak In reply to Aikurisu [2010-11-20 13:28:28 +0000 UTC]

Hrm - there's a distinct possibility that you've been second-guessing yourself too much. Maybe you should relax and paint by instinct. You could even wear a helmet over you eyes - trust the force, Luke!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Aikurisu In reply to Tizrak [2010-11-22 17:53:46 +0000 UTC]

lol, I'm not that gifted in just trusting my feelings alone.

Seriously, though, you may have a point. Normally I like to be calculative and draw things with a perfectionist's mindset. But I think that in the end it doesn't show better art for it. Just greater dedication to see something done.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Tizrak In reply to Aikurisu [2010-11-23 01:32:23 +0000 UTC]

Well, dedication to see something done is a major part of it too. I know too many artists who get so tangled up in planning that they never actually do the drawing - they end up with eternal works-in-progress. If planning helps you finish, that's probably a virtue even if the artwork comes out at the same level of quality overall.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Aikurisu In reply to Tizrak [2010-11-27 13:16:05 +0000 UTC]

True... for a time, I used to pride myself on always completing whatever art I started working on, but nowadays I tend to be more finicky and abandon some things if I can't see their end result clearly enough to warrant dedication...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Tizrak In reply to Aikurisu [2010-11-28 14:24:09 +0000 UTC]

It makes sense with limited time - there are projects I haven't finished either, just because finishing them would require giving up something else (i.e. going to work and earning the money to pay for food and housing ). I may or may not finish them some day, but it certainly won't be any time in the short term.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Aikurisu In reply to Tizrak [2010-12-04 16:33:43 +0000 UTC]

Well, sometimes when they do get finished, satisfaction can be its reward.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Tizrak In reply to Aikurisu [2010-12-04 18:20:16 +0000 UTC]

Unfortunately a lot of my projects are ongoing ones ... they never really get finished, they just get temporarily caught up. Ah well, at least I don't get bored.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Aikurisu In reply to Tizrak [2010-12-05 02:22:50 +0000 UTC]

Maybe... but isn't there that old saying how 'Boredom is the birthmother of creativity'?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Tizrak In reply to Aikurisu [2010-12-05 18:33:24 +0000 UTC]

First I heard of that saying, but I wouldn't be surprised.

BTW, I read your Dawn Treader review, and Edmund was like that in the books too!

Aikurisu In reply to Tizrak [2010-12-10 13:42:41 +0000 UTC]

Good! That means the actor has done him justice then.

And according to other readers... it would seem the actor for Eustace has near-flawlessly represented him.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Tizrak In reply to Aikurisu [2010-12-11 03:35:50 +0000 UTC]

It would be a tough role for many actors, too - this tempts me to actually see the film.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Aikurisu In reply to Tizrak [2010-12-11 03:59:43 +0000 UTC]

Well, it's certainly been a while since I've chuckled/smiled to myself in a good way, whenever I see a certain character on scene.

Tizrak In reply to Aikurisu [2010-12-11 13:44:15 +0000 UTC]

He *was* something along the lines of comic relief (as well as classic redemption tale) for most of the book ...

Then again... there would be a lot of romance...
