“You wound me, milord. To call a lioness a mere 'alley cat' is most demeaning. If I wanted to stalk you without a peep, I would have. Yet that was hardly my intention.”

“Then... why? I told you to stay with Orson, where you would be safe. Are my words simply folly to your ears that you’d rather favour disloyalty to them?

“No offence, but I feel safer here. And who will protect you? Even a wolf knows it is unsafe to travel these woodlands alone at night.”

“A wolf, yes. But I am no such beast. Do not delude yourself in thinking I belong with Raleigh’s pack and their obedient mongrels.”

“Then that makes two of us, yes? Still, to leave that ominous sword of yours behind...”

“It would have only slowed me down. Now, though, I wonder. What am I to do with you?”

“I know not these things... but if it pleases you, you could enslave me naked to a tree here and let die, if you feel I am not safe enough to entrust with your secrets.”

“That... won’t be necessary. Considerate, but unnecessary.”

Darn that Shae, at any rate. Won’t let a man do things his own way... and here’s hoping that Klaus doesn’t let her use that rolled up secret map he’s holding. They’ll get lost in the woods for sure!
