Description Beloved daughter to ever graceful Queen Myria and noble King Eddard the III, Princess Jennifer Tyriande has long been considered an only child and as such the rightful heir to their throne of Yheriess; an honour first bestowed to Xaivius Lightseer; one of the heroes of Shadow’s End and known ancestral parent to Jen’s kingly father.

Such titles however were more a curse to be known among vagabonds, sellswords, bandits, and any commoners with the unsavoury potential to become such. So thrust into a world of informalities and fear, Jen was left naked beyond her kingdom’s walls with knowledge of real life so unwitting and naïve, some would have confused her for a babe at a wet nurse’s breast. And much to her distress, she was robbed of luxuries she previously took for granted and was made to conceal her identity for sake of prolonging good health for herself and those close to her. The days where she was pampered by personal entourages and given the pleasant company of bards that once sang chivalrously of ladies and their knights to win her adore were simply no more.

Since the fall of the Daeyaran kingdom, the old world she knew of once being blessed with valiant deeds and insightful amities was reduced to a plagued and deceitful land. It’s order of knights were broken and few from death, while their ladies deathly cried from shallow graves. An innocent was scarcely seen, and those with power barricaded themselves with greed and vain hope of self-perseverance; hope that fell deaf to those who found the shadow’s path.

Yet somehow Jennifer was amongst it all, still unsullied and unharmed. Were she more fortunate, the banners of Yheriess might have protected her in such dire times. Though instead it was the cruel and somewhat gruelling relationship she had with a mysterious ranger that plucked her away from certain death at the beginning of her misfortune. Fyren was his name. A man far from the noble mind a knight, but he was ever kind in protecting her life. Where bards would sing to soothe her nerves, he would lick his blade across a whetstone instead. She disliked his brusque mentality, but his sword was a careful reminder that he was a great deal of what kept her alive.

Then there was Rune. Quiet, but sincere. The other half of her guardian’s circle. He was light between them that somehow knew how to calm a storm like Fyren and still manage to care for the blisters and sores Jen was bound to through their travels together. A young man with the heart and gentleness of a lamb... yet bound to nightmarish dreams and memories of a time that frequently starved him of sleep. Sometimes she felt he was more afraid of the world than her, yet he never feigned from his protection of her, nor allowed her to learn much about his frightful uncertainties.

Still, she had hoped that the three of them would find peace in lands where it did not crave her blood; lands where she could sup with them over some merriment, without paying constant caution to their surroundings. She prayed day and night that her kingdom was also in this dream... and that it would still be there to welcome her home.

Sometimes though… she knew not how it could survive against what Rune dreamt.

And there we have it. Few notes though. I have never found so much enjoyment in drawing an art in… a very long time. Not only was it fun, but it was drawn in 2 days. Much better than the weekly marathons I’m used to. XD

So yes, this is the blue haired princess I’ve drawn from past years… but without the transforming magic that consumes her body later in the fiction of Phoenix Requiem. Does this mean I’m writing back into it? Nope. I have more interest in writing descriptions like these... and the nelri lore. I will however draw illustrations for Rune and Fyren, eventually. And, when my drawing days are back to normal, I’ll get around to those commissions!

Ya know, it's not really fair to be skilled at drawing AND writing, Love.
She's pretty. Redheads FTW!
Sheesh. Even your simple bg's look good. XD

Thanks. I learnt those backgrounds from deciphering better artist methods too. I'd just sit there looking at their works, til the invisible layers started to emerge in my mind. XD

She's really too beautiful indeed, and her pose has somewhat dreamy and classy at the same time. Thinking at a character and her whole back story, giving her flesh and personality, and pose to mutely match and convey all you told about her... it's the work of a genious indeed ^^

Thanks! Nice way you put it too.

But me being called a genius? That's debatable.

You did a great looking picture, and able to convey a personality, a story and a state of mind. Thusly, you're a genius

Also great detail and really beautifull, i wont say any negative on it, i think you really put your heart in that one

Thanks. XD And yeah, I definitely have to be a wizard to complete something in that time. It's one of those few instances where everything goes just right; in that it doesn't need extra attention.

Goodness gracious, this is just too awesome Aik. She's got so much depth that I almost mistaken her for a good 3D model. Not only that but all the little details in her costume make her that much better.
Outstanding man, keep up the great work!

Thanks, mate! Hopefully there will be more of her to come too. I've got mind to draw her in an exotic tribal motif for a special moment in the story. That'll be even more rich in detail hopefully.

Lord-Of-The-Guns [2007-04-09 09:15:36 +0000 UTC]

Nice proportions and she's very expressive - the background works well, like she's carefully wandering through a thick fog. If anything I'd say her hair is a bit off. The coloring is excellent but her hairline seems to sit a little too high on her head to me.

But otherwise its a very nice piece - great coloring especially. Well done!

Thanks, man! Yeah, I figured that too... so I've changed it. I was trying to get a particular angle off through the work's stages, but it kept changing, even when the hair was completed.

i'm not a big fan of watermarks, so the glowy text over the image kind of ruins it for me. anyway, the cloth and hair are the best. i think gray for a background is a color killer, i'd choose something that compliments her soft figure, like an earth tone or a washed out pastel.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Aikurisu In reply to rtil [2007-04-06 07:47:04 +0000 UTC]

I'm not about to let someone steal my work. Hence the watermarks are made, because, unlike yourself, I doubt few people could recognise my work in someone else's gallery. So as much as I hate using them, they still give me some peace of mind.

Yet... maybe when I'm actually known in 10 or so years, I'll gladly make them take a hike.

As for the earth tone... I'll look into it. I'm experimenting with it as I'm typing this, so it'll be updated soon.

I will say it's not your best ever, but I can't say there's anything wrong with it ^^

I like the way you've got the background in --you know there's a background because you can see the stones fade into the for, yet at the same time you don't have to draw a background because there is fog! clever!

My first though on this was WTF happened to her hair!? But transforming magic?

Kris, Darling, please, please, pleeeeease get the writing bug back soon so I can read this properly!

Aikurisu In reply to Maddy02 [2007-04-04 14:44:44 +0000 UTC]

Thank's Maddy! Glad you like the background, btw. I felt it was one of the highlights when I drew it.

Anyhoo, I've decided that for the sake of making it easier to protect Jen's days in troubled times; I went to make her appearance more... normal. There's really only a handful of characters in the world's lore that have blue hair... and I want to push myself further from the anime sweetening of hair colours that are used freely. So I want to make it for more of a special occassion that marks her relation to an ancestry long forgotten. Something more epic to the story at least.

... and as much as I want to get back into the fiction, I just don't feel I'm up to the mark. It's going to take something remarkably special for it to come to life now. Descriptions like this write up for Jen are easy though.

You know, you could always just have her dye her trademark hair to avoid detection.

Aikurisu In reply to Sargoth [2007-04-05 02:27:46 +0000 UTC]

But... that just wouldn't be as epic. Cool, but not epic enough. Magical transformations are cooler. XD

She looks.. alive! Somehow your art keeps becoming more and more real, it's as if I can really imagine her moving. Totally superb. Some minor naggles if one HAS to critique: Some of the lining looks a bit thick compared to the rest, noticeable on the right hand and necklace. Aside from this, all is Totally splendid

But that would require days upon days of traversing every nook and cranny of the Old World! Seriously though, I wouldn't know where to start... for the way I am with names at the moment, I'd end up making it needlessly more indepth than what's appropiate. XD

Thanks! And if only it was that easy. Wouldn't want it that way though. It'd be kinda discouraging for my work to be rated on the same level as a 3D model. They're just too different and cheap to compare at times.
