Description Fire, is a very unpredictable force, just like imagination. I feel I have bonded with this element and it continues to show up in my artwork, unintentionally. I’ve decided to let my style go where it needs to and to stop trying to persuade it differently.

Thank you everybody for the faves, comments critique and overall feedback on my art. I have been very busy lately but I promise I will find the time to go through messages. I always appreciate the time you take to look at my creations.

Here is another drawing similar to this one-I used it as a reference: [link]
Pose reference was taken from a book titled African Predators from my library.

I will be posting a tutorial on how I drew this picture!

Materials used: 100% watercolor pencils on 90 lb. watercolor paper.
Time: 30+ hours. I’ve put this in the drawing category because 80% of the work is laying the pigment down with pencils, and 20% is adding water to it.

I have to be honest, when the picture loaded I literally said "What the hell!" because I have no idea how you got that firey effect!! That's an amazing technique you have there, god I love your watercolors!! I would love to see a tutorial on this, your style of watercolors is awesome. Wonderful job, as always.

I love the look of the flames! They're soft yet angular lines give it a feel of a natural burn, a pureifying burn to set grounds for new growth. Strong and elegant.

This work is really impressive, I love looking at your fire-themed art because you always capture the very essence of this element so well - which true in this work as well! The flow of the flames looks very realistic and I love the pose, it looks dynamic and very fitting for the king of animals. Simply majestic!

Thank you! I appreciate the kind words ^^ The more dynamic the pose and flames, the happier I am with these flame pics. I get bored easily with just the standard profile or head on pose. Challenging myself has opened up new doors for my creativity ^^

This looks like so much fun~!

You are very good at drawing energies.
Do you see them in real life?

Aikya In reply to RememberWho [2009-06-03 22:31:03 +0000 UTC]

That is the first time anybody has ever asked me that-I do not necessarily 'see' the energy when I draw it but I do very much feel it-one way I can tell I am using pure creative energy, instead of mind energy, is when my hands, arms and spine warm up. This picture definitely did that for me!

It shows very brightly.
Its wonderful, and that is truly a good feeling.
I see energy. And feel it...One of various gifts.
Its really refreshing seeing someone who draws it. :]
especially so well!

Its gorgeous.
<3 We should speak sometime. ^.^?

Wow this is so beautiful! I really love how you make fire look. The connection between the fire and the lion is beautiful! I really love when you do pieces like this! Its like the fire and the lion will jump off the page! You are such a creative artist and i'm so glad to see your wonderful pieces like this one. Fire is so majestic :>

Thank you my friend!
I really do love how the perspective turned out with this picture-using the motion of the fire helped me to create some depth-and it moves in different directions off of the page. When I look at the actual drawing I almost have to squint because the colors are so vibrant!

This is interesting. I´m pleased to hear you´re going to let your art take you wherever it goes. That is all you need to do. It´s organic and on fire. What more can I say; maybe: try to scan it and try out different backgrounds in some photoshop program jsut to test it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Aikya In reply to Aniren [2009-06-03 22:35:14 +0000 UTC]

Thank you very much! ^^ It is very rewarding when you just let yourself go and stop worrying about the end result. That is the good thing about these watercolor is that they make me slow down and focus on the process of the drawing-when I get going to fast I mess up!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Aniren In reply to Aikya [2009-06-05 20:48:12 +0000 UTC]

You shouldn´t EVER worry about the end result. That´s the only path to becoming a real artist.

Nephilum-Kat [2009-05-29 03:48:06 +0000 UTC]

I love the concept, and its vary free flowing. But the pose seems off, as though this body is too short, and the paw spreading the fire seems... too long, might be the right way to summerize it. But that could be me, I'm not a good judge on positions. Besides that, I really like it. Its dynamic, and it really catches your attention, though the lions expression seems bleak, almost, or sadly resigned. I like it a lot though. Instant fav! :3

Aikya In reply to Nephilum-Kat [2009-06-03 22:37:23 +0000 UTC]

Thank you very much!
I know what you mean about the pose-the photo I used was of a lion turning to walk the other way. It was confusing working with this picture because I had to figure out which way I wanted the fire to go and not make it look like his body was dissipating all the way

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Nephilum-Kat In reply to Aikya [2009-06-13 05:20:46 +0000 UTC]

Ek. I can understand that. I don't like working with photos too often, because even though it may be natural in the picture, transfering it into another media might make it look weird. I still like the picture, though the cat does look sad. :'(

The Colouring is really nice but I think, the Tiger Self is a little bit hide in the flames, so I need a little bit time to see him right^^

Tinuviels-song [2009-05-27 21:15:45 +0000 UTC]

The pose seems very natural and realistic, you captured it well. I also love his expression; it's as though he's not entirely sure what fire is, despite being made of it. He looks curious, in short, as though he were seeing a mirror for the first time. I love how the flames go outside the frame, it helps to emphasize the nature of fire I think.

Excellent, as always.

Aikya In reply to Tinuviels-song [2009-06-03 21:57:42 +0000 UTC]

I am always happy to hear what other people have to say about their opinion and what they see in my artwork. You always pick out some neat things-I feel you picked up on the mirror effect I was trying to convey-I had an idea of him looking at his own fire (which is his soul)

He is recognizing his own power and inspiration.
