Description I apologize for the poor quality of this picture, let me explain…

Ok so I got going on this idea I’ve had for a while of an underwater forest-originally the equine creature was supposed to be pulling a tree made of kelp, when the idea shifted to him having lungs and a tail that formed a giant bubble instead-sort of like when you first jump into water and there is a huge cape of oxygen that follows you under. I’ve been swimming a lot lately.

Then after an hour of working on the picture a thunderstorm approached. I was outside watching it come in when I thought; wouldn’t it be neat to let the rain drip onto the water soluble pencils? I decided to take the risk and let it happen. It was fun, taking away my ability to control what was going to happen to this picture. It feels good to surrender to the art and not trying to bring out an end result.

The water started to cover the paper when the wind picked up. It almost blew the paper away so my brother and I went inside just before 60 mph winds blew away our table’s umbrella! XD Then it started to hail. After that I decided to work on this picture for as long as the storm lasted and then stop, no matter how far I had gotten, which was about another hour. I don’t know why, but it felt really good to do this, even if the results weren’t as clear as I had seen them in the beginning.

Mediums used: Watercolor pencils on acrylic paper, water directly from clouds overhead ^^
Original is 6X12 in.

Thank you for taking a peek!

Wow. It looks so beautiful....
Makes me wish that I'd been drawing something while it'd been raining. I might've been able to get some inspiration from it. It wouldn't have turned out nearly as beautiful as this did though.

It reminds me much of an elemental, something of the elements that can take any form it wishes. Simply gorgeous.

it's a raging spirit of the sea plowing through the depths... I don't think you could of gotten it looking so if you had not created it in such a way... after all it is depicting water, why not let it do some of the work!

Yes! I think you are right ^^ It was fun to let the actual element take over the picture.

Amazing! Very brave to put it in the rain. But the whole process behind it definitely enforces the power of water and the elements into it. Well done!

Thank you! I had a lot of fun doing this one, even though the lighting got pretty bad and the wind became violent, I still feel like the actual essence of stormy water soaked into this picture.

I recommend this to anyone who wants to have a good time!

This is absoluetly beautiful!!! The cool colors in your work always seem to make me feel calm and serene. I love how the equine creature's tail just flows away from it's body. It's very beautiful :3 The rain is very inspiring hehe. This picture is so beautiful!! I can't stop saying! Amazing job Aikya! Instant fave!!!

Thank you very much! ^^ This was a good picture to cool down with-I've been working on so many fire pictures lately I'm starting to see my art isn't so much material, but more energy/ethereal in a way. I sort of drift away from drawing actual fur or feathers and turn them into something different ^^

SprolaGirl In reply to Aikya [2009-06-10 13:42:33 +0000 UTC]

Your very welcome!
The picture is so beautiful and captivating and all of the shades of blue go so perfectly together. It's so calming! It makes me feel like I'm actually looking at water! Hahaha! I want to do like the elemental trio: Water, Fire, and Earth hahaha!
That's awesome! I love doing feathers

Very interesting effect! It's nice to see 'a water' drawing after the 'fire' series I really love this one Somehow it seems to be very mysterious and full of tension.
