Description Liv Tyler, who has been in a few movies... Lord of the Rings, of course, being one of them. The photo ref is from her Givenchy ad. Started it before I went to China and finished it when I came back. Since it is bigger than the scanner, I took a photo of it, and it turned out very good.

Derwent graphite pencils, tissue, kneaded eraser, and a lot of time in class...

Her head is wonderful, but the arm/hand looks a tad off. Over all it's beautiful! Way to go!

When I saw the thumb of this, I thought it was a photomanip... then I full-viewed and saw the sketch lines in her hat. Very lovely, great shades, and I love the contrast here. The hair, and her facial features are all very realistic. for sure.

Wow great work!

How big do you usualy do your work? I was thinking of doing mine in A4 instead because then i could scan it but i'm sure it would be much harder to get a good end result..

Thank you ^^

I go all sizes- from a sketchbook that is 9x12 in to big paper on 18x24 in. For photographing anything larger than your scanner you should go outside and then photograph in the shade; that's how I got some of my larger pieces done (like "In Dreams" and "Evolution"). Some photoshop altering also helps to make it look as much like the original as possible.

Oh right thanks

Ah. Photographing indoors is a big pain - i think i will take your advice and re-photograph my drawings in the morning outside and i'll play around with photoshop now. I always forget about photoshop even though i use it all the time ><

Thanks again

Make sure to photograph in the shade, though, not the sunlight. If it's windy, I find a friend/a lot of rocks to hold it down XD

Trust me, altering the levels will help much Not too much- make it look like the original, especially if you want the best feedback.

JackEavesArt In reply to AinuLaire [2009-04-06 21:59:50 +0000 UTC]

Ah yes ill remember that, what i find while doing it indoors is that the lighting is uneven so certain parts of the image looks brighter - very annoying.
yup, i used to alter the level's all the time for when i was in a manga phase many years ago (oh god XD) scanning line art can be annoying.

AinuLaire In reply to JackEavesArt [2009-04-06 22:01:41 +0000 UTC]

Heh, I have some line art I have to put up and it does not look very good at all. I photographed it in a bad spot, and even photoshop couldn't correct it completely ><

JackEavesArt In reply to AinuLaire [2009-04-06 22:05:03 +0000 UTC]

Ah yeah i hate it when that happens - i want a bigger scanner but the prices are insane, having just bought a new camera for photography. But i will definitly take your advice with photographing my work
