Description
Companions of Jupiter .
Talking about Planets it's kind of hard to ignore Moons. Sometimes the distinction between the two concepts is just a matter of context. A lot of Moons are much more varied, interesting, and even bigger than some proper Planets. but there are so many of them and they get so outshined (hah) by their Host planet that their weirdness is often overlooked...
Altough Earth and Mars have been depicted accompanied by [all] their satellites, I don't pretend to illustrate all moons in this project, specially not in the case of the dozens of things orbiting the Gas Giants... I'll be making these illustrations with the most notorious or conceptually interesting moons.
Most of these moons weren't originally sketched, and their development came after extensive research on their properties.

05b - JUPITER'S COURT
In Jupiter's Case, the four Galilean Satellites are the most notorious characters, and also some of the most interesting moons out there, Conceptually I imagined them as facets of the spirit of the main planet, incorporating some of its elements as main features, without losing their own identities. As well as Jupiter, they are kind of Weapon/Battle themed, and roughly correspond with videogame logic: Io and Europa are Magic-based, while Ganymede and Callisto are more Physical. Europa and Callisto represent Passive/Defensive characteristics, like armor and shields, while Io and Ganymede are Attack.
- 05.1 - IO: An aggressive and unstable fire wizard, and the source of Jupiter's signature blue flame. It paralells the real-life mechanism in which Io's volcanic activity surrounds Jupiter with clouds of plasma.
- 05.2 - EUROPA: A peaceful ice wizard, and the source of Jupiter's shield. Based on the belief that a Moonwide Ice blanket protects a massive internal ocean.
- 05.3 - GANYMEDE: A massive warrior, paralelling Jupiter with rock and ice instead of gas. Visually it's based on the jagged lines on the object's surface. Although it looks like another Icy moon (which are really really common) Ganymede is very planet-like in structure and composition.
- 05.4 - CALLISTO: A broken, undead shell of ancient and dirty ice. Callisto is so old, Old as balls.
