Description From my tumblr~ [link]

Today in japanese-language-class we got our first text in hiragana and should translate it to romaji. Since I haven’t been able to learn all the hiragana-symbols yet I had some trouble in translating them, but somehow I was successful like the others and at least were able to write them down in romaji.

Since I am still a noob and beginner I of course weren’t able to see a single word in that mess of symbols and having all that repeating “NO” “KO” “TO” parts didn’t help either. It was rather confusing and just blew my mind LOL I think I was constantly asking the teacher things like “What? Can you repeat that??? Is it.. Koto Ko? Or Ko to ko? Or Ko toko? Or even Kotoko?!??” XDDDD

I felt dumb, but the other students didn’t get it as well so yeah…

Really, Japan, why’s your language so… strange XD How can you tell a story with constantly using 80% of the same Symbols over and over again. HOWS THAT WORKIIIIINNNNNGGGGG LOL It’s so different to my language but that’s what I like about it so much XD ♥ I hope I will at least be able to understand a little bit of a conversation in this language. This would be cool and totally satisfy me LOL

At least I already know how to ask someone if something is a clock or not.

“Kore wa tokei desu ka?”

Oh yeah, baby, my badass japanese-language skillz rock the house XDDDDDD’ This is totally going to help me out if I am lost in japan one day (not) //shot

No really. I like that language. Even though I sometimes feel like the dumbest person alive when it comes to languages (@ ̄∇ ̄@)

“Watashi wa baka desu”

(To all the japanese people: I am so sorry for failing XD I hope it doesn’t hurt too much in your eyes reading that noobish sentences QuQ”)

Well hey, don't feel so bad. You were born learning one of the hardest spoken languages and you speak english near perfectly which is also extremley hard for most non-english speaking people to learn. I'm sure you'll grasp japanese soon enough at this rate. uwu It just takes a bit of time,

Wow. Japanese sounds like a hard language to learn. You'll never catch me trying to learn such difficult languages! I'll stick with Spanish and French. I'm learning those right now.

Notecards, notecards, notecards! Study the symbols in groups of 10 or so then you'll get 'em memorized quicker! With the symbols memorized, things start getting a lot simpler~

Hahah, I know your pain! XD It takes a careful ear to distinguish all of those syllables! It'd be easier to understand specific words/meanings if you knew kanji, though~

HEY, HIN-KUN.

YARANAI KA?

no no, that's awful Sundance, stop it.

Seriousness though, I wish you luck with Japanese! It's certainly an odd language to wrap your head around, but at basic level it's actually very simplistic once you memorise the rules or so I hear.

Actually memorising the katakana and hirigana though, for me, is a nightmare. I remember I had to use memory tricks to memorise some of the characters (such as 'To' looking like a big toe with a nail in it) Even now I can barely remember them...:s At least it's not Mandarin Chinese, huh?

Aishishi In reply to ChillySunDance [2013-04-20 18:07:21 +0000 UTC]

LOOOOOL staph. XDDDD

Yeah, I am using the same memory tricks as you seem to do. Like remembering the Nu because it looks like noodles or something like this. And the HA because it looks like someone sneezing or so xDDD

It's hard but I will do my best <3 and Yeah, god, never would try to learn these. They would kill me.

I think the funniest thing about Japanese is this situation my teacher's husband got into once

See they went and visited Japan, but he ended up getting a really bad headache. So he goes into a pharmacy shop thing and asks "Aspirin?" And then the clerk says

"No Ice Cream!"

xD Because the Katakana for Aspirin (A-su-pu-ri-nu) and Ice Cream (A-I-su-ku-ri-mu) sound really similar xD

But yeah Japanese is ridiculous, but Latin is even worse |D There are so many dumb grammar rules in Latin that I just can't even. Well, then again Japanese has a ridiculous amount of grammar rules as well... Gosh, those Te forms really destroy you after a while |D

Oh how bout this sentence?
"Tenki ga atatakunakatta desu."
Atatakai means "warm," tenki means "weather,"
To make a adjective negative, you drop the I and add "kunai" at the end, so atatakakunai
To make an adjective past tense, you drop the I and add "katta," atatakakatta
To make it both, you drop the I from the kunai form and add katta, atatakakunakatta

Try saying that 5 times fast
And that's just to tell you that it wasn't warm outside xD

SunsetTheDragon In reply to UltimateSassMaster [2013-04-22 09:23:49 +0000 UTC]

I can imagine, and having to memorize all the kanji! That must be really hard o__o

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

UltimateSassMaster In reply to SunsetTheDragon [2013-04-23 01:33:12 +0000 UTC]

Haha actually only a few were relatively difficult! Since the Kanji are based after like pictures, that's how I would memorize them lol. And a lot were just like, other Kanji but with an extra line. For example, "root" is just the Kanji for "tree" but with an extra line at the bottom lol.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Nialtirora In reply to UltimateSassMaster [2013-05-04 19:58:34 +0000 UTC]

The most common kanji for root is 根; that is, the radical for 'tree' next to the radical for 'good', 'northeast', or 'stopping'. While the tree radical may be relatively visible, the radical for good appears to be a sun atop some random lines, not very obvious.

Once you get past the first 20 kanji or so (at most), the pictures start tapering off. Even if you memorize the radicals, the meanings of the kanji have changed so much that it's impossible to understand them that way.

UltimateSassMaster In reply to Nialtirora [2013-05-05 00:25:25 +0000 UTC]

I only took 3 years of Japanese so I was taught that "root" was this 本, as in "hon" from "nihon."

I don't even remember anything else haha

XD aww Ok, das ist kein Problem für mich. Well then würde ich halt so ein Bild gerne haben mit drei charakteren; Archeru, Lotus (Grovyle) und Hin (Quilava) °w° (und wenn noch ein chara mehr geht würd ich mir über Camelia (Vibrava form) nen Ast abfreuen haha XD)

Wenn das für dich ok ist <3

Awww, das wäre so cool *A* Wieviel würdest du dann bekommen? >U<
