"Who entered my den?" Thistle growled. All the dogs watched their leader with fright, though none spoke up. I knew Dusk wasn't going to speak, and neither was I.

"Everything was a MESS when I went in there," he continued. "I want whoever it is to turn themselves in! I will not stand my own pack causing such disrespect to their Alpha. If they do not, the whole pack will sleep in the hen houses tonight. You all are dismissed."

The dogs scattered, but I caught up with Dusk and Talon. We sneaked where no one else would hear. Talon was the first to ask, "What happened?"

"Me and Dusk entered the longpaw den," I explained. Talon's eyes widened.

"You went into Thistle's den?!"

"Yes, but we found something odd in there."

"Really? What?"

We took turns explaining how we got in, then wandered around and discovered the hidden entrance. And, most importantly, the strange dog. Talon was shaking as we finished talking. "Are you going to tell Thistle?"

"Not yet," Dusk said, "but when we learn more we will tell him."

Then Talon said, in a shaky voice, "I think I know what dog that is."

"Really?" I asked. What kind of dog would live in an abandoned longpaw den?

"Yes, it's a scary one. If your description is what I think it is, then you could have encountered Cove. He's the Alpha of the Forests Below."

"Forests Below?" Astra tipped her head. She had heard of the Forests Above, not Below.

"The Forests Below is where all the bad dogs go..."

Talon whimpered. Dusk mumbled, "What would the Alpha be doing there?"

"I'm not sure about this... but what if Thistle is doing something bad?" I asked. Dusk and Talon gave me a startled look.

"That can't be true!" Talon barked, "Thistle's a good Alpha."

Their eyes made me realize how wrong that was to say. "It was just a theory. I don't know if Thistle is doing it or not. Maybe someone else is getting him to do it."

"Should we go back?" Talon asked. Dusk answered before I could, "Not now, Fog is going to guard that like his own life."

We thought for a bit under the shade of the barn, but some pawsteps startled us. Around the corner a small shadow rose on the side of a silo, and then it revealed Spots. The small white and tan spotted dog appeared nervous, as though he was doing something he should not. As soon as he saw us, he said, "You went in Thistle's house?"

I felt my ears prick. "You were eavesdropping on us?"

Spots nodded sadly. "I don't wanna sleep in the hen house. Water slips in through the roof."

I had only been in the hen house for a few days, so I had no idea what it was like in the rain.

"Oh," I looked down. Dusk seemed uneasy, and Talon was nervous. With an inhale, I admitted, "I will take the punishment."

"Are you sure?" Dusk asked.

"Yes. I was the one who had the plan."

"But Thistle might demote you..."

"I won't mind."

"You're sure?"

"Yes," I headed to Thistle, "I am."

I ran across the barn until I found Thistle, who was resting beside Primrose on the top ledge of the barn. A conflict rose inside of me, but I pushed ahead, and once I started to speak, I knew there was no taking back my words. "Thistle?"

The Alpha opened an eye. "What?"

"I was the one who entered the longpaw den."
