I absolutely loved drawing Elonis, she is such a beautiful character~
It is also the first time I have tried drawing a background. Opinions and suggestions are welcome.
Drawn with pencil, shaded with ink. 3 mm bleed.

My secret? If I have one it's probably "use a lot of water"...
And also having no fear to mess up: the ink wash is painted on a separate paper and then merged with the drawing in photoshop.
That way I can experiment as much as I want with the ink without ruining my drawing. c:

The first thing that I have to say is that I can't believe this is your first time drawing a background. The background is absolutely beautiful. I adore the fact that the lines are very loose but the stone structures still feel solid and the details are enough without feeling too vague or overworked. It's just perfect. Really ♥
And Elonis herself looks lovely. You've really captured the sense of melancholy that surrounds her but you've also given her a sense of strength in her pose. You really have done a wonderful job in illustrating her character. I just... I just love it.

Well I have drawn sceneries before, but this is the first time I used one as a background for this sort of manga-style character.
I feared the background might become to profound compared to the character or that they simply wouldn’t fit together.
I am thrilled that you like it though. It means a lot coming from such a talented artist. <3
And melancholic yet strong character are my absolute favorite subjects~
