Description This was also a school art project. We had to take a quote from a song, illustrate it, and incorporate the quote into the illustration. Then paint it with watorcolors, and write the lyrics with ink and a fountain pen (they called them something different.... um, those pens with metal tips that you have to dip into ink all the time?)

I, obviously, chose Werewolves of London by Warren Zevon. It's the first two lines of the song, which are:
I saw a werewolf with a Chinese menu in his hand
Walking through the streets of Soho in the rain.
Yes, I know in the painting "Chinese" is missing an e. The intent was to have it covered by the umbrella, but then some of the ink leaked into the watercolors (which were still damp... just on the umbrella e_e), so it became a full "s" instead of being partially covered up :/
And there's blue splatters across it that were supposed to be rain, but they didn't show up as well as I would have liked -sigh-.

But everything else I'm pleased with . I'm terrible at watercolors (don't like 'em much either), but I think I did a pretty darn good job on this one . My first ever "successful" watercolor painting, and easily my favorite piece from art class all year n__n

Yes those things are in very poor condtion and they really do need new ones!!!
I love this picture by the way, it's really cool looking. I think it's the background that brings it all out.

The background was by far the easiest part xD;

Yeah, I think they're calligraphy pens, but all I could think of was fountain pens
Is there a difference?

I wish they would.... :c

Seriously, I can't even draw a decent line with them, they like, tear up the paper and bleed everywhere because they're so bent... x__x;

you did a great job on this!! i love watercolors X3 even though alot of plp hate them cus of how hard they are to manage... i am like that with Acrylics but watercolors seem natural to be and they are my fav thing to paint with X3 this looks great, i love the qoute you choose and everything. Btw, where the pens call Caligraphy pens? (not sure how to spell that, but it sounds something like that...) we had to do it in our class too only there was no pic in it... just boring old writing....

Yeah, I haven't really tried acrylics (although I just bought some yesterday to paint my clay figures with >w<, so I wouldn't know. To tell the truth, most types of paints don't agree with me xDD; I prefer colored pencils and markers x^x

And yes! They were calligraphy pens! . But I think my art teacher still called them something different :/

yea XD thats the way i used to be till i found a mediam i really took to. Perhaps you just need to experiment more with different mediams X3 im going to magor in mixed media dealing with a mix of water colors and colorpencils mostly, some acrylic here and there for highlights and lighter stuff like that. But even soo, i have never tried markers although i have always wanted too, that can be a media the produces great effects as well! ^^

akireru In reply to K-Es-Tressier [2006-04-24 20:29:49 +0000 UTC]

Yes, I'd love to try more mediums, but I don't want to spend the money on it xDD;
Although I do have a soft spot for 3D media (I enjoy clay, making plushies, etc.).

I only have a few colors of markers :/. I'd like to get, like, a 20 set or someting, but they're like, super expensive o_o (the markers are $5 a piece).
But I got the Prismacolors, so that's why. They're reeeallly nice though . And they're awesome for skin tones >w<

K-Es-Tressier In reply to akireru [2006-04-24 21:19:04 +0000 UTC]

yea i know they are expensive, i wanted to get some but i just havn't gotten around to it.... i have like 80 or 90 primsacolor colored pencils which was like $120 in all x_x Clay is fun too. ^^ but yea, things like that can be expensive, but usually when you buy it lasts for quit a long time. X3

akireru In reply to K-Es-Tressier [2006-04-24 21:31:15 +0000 UTC]

I have a box of 20 pencils. But I don't mind so much, since they can be mixed easily x3

That's why I always like to buy the good stuff. The cheap stuff never lasts long, and performs poorly even while it "lasts". Like, when I went to Michael's yesterday, I spent about $30 on 4 paintbrushes. I could've gotten 25 for $4 xD;

XD!! yea the other day i went and got new paint brushes and spent alot on them when i could have went to wal-mart and bout a set for like 5 bucks XD

Yepyep. But you can bet the expensive ones will last muuuch longer >w<

Lovely illustration, and the calligraphy is really well done.
Pretty backgroud effect... Looks like a gloomy winters day of sorts.

I just copied an alphabet printout xD;
And those pens were in the worst shape I have EVER seen o_O. Some of the metal tips were literally bent into a right angle x-x

And that's good, 'cause it's supposed to be a gloomy rainy day, which is also how I picture London xD;;

I hate it when the pen nibs get all bent. I've even broken a few at times.
The top hat just screams "British!" XD

I haven't worked with them much, but it seems to me you have to press pretty darn hard to break/bend one o__o

lol! Version 1 is a werewolf in top hat sipping tea xDD
