Description
This is my entry for the "So much water" contest at Beatrix and a Topielica.Plate armour is so much easier on the hand then drawing maille.
Not sure if the fog looks like fog though...____________________________

I use various different types of watercolour paper. For this picture I used Winsor and Newton watercolour paper. It's my favourite (though currently I'm all out of it so I'm using various other types). Generally, if you want to avoid the grainy texture you have to use hot-pressed watercolour paper. It is much smoother than the cold-press. However it also absorbs water less...It should be easily available at most art supply stores.

Seems to me like there are lots of different kinds of fog - and you captured the heavy, ground-hugging soupy sort of fog perfectly!
Also, I really like the crisp lines that your pen adds to your watercolor. Maybe this is what my watercolor has been missing; I should give it a go.
Overall, really nice job with the coloring - you have lots of control with the watercolor to keep it where it needs to be in the armor and faces and plant details, but you leave it loose enough to really capture wateriness and fog.

Thank you so much for the kind comment! Yeah, I agree there are many different kinds of fog, some more foreboding than others I guess...It was my first time doing fog in watercolour so I'm glad it looks ok!
As to the pen lines, yeah, I find it helps add crispness and focus to some of my pictures, though if someone is good at pure watercolour (as I am not) then I think it is better than adding the pen lines. Still they help me, so I often use them.

Thank you so much dear! I'm so glad you like it! Well, the girl in the water is supposed to be a "topielica". In Polish folklore it is a type of water creature/demon which was the spirit of a girl who drowned (either as a suicide or murder). As you can expect they tried to drown passers-by (especially men).
