I know some people try to justify this by saying, "Well there is already incest in the show/books." Doesn't make it any less gross. Not only that, but people will go out of their way to defend incest saying that as long as it is between two consenting adults then they can do whatever they want. You do you boo... I personally find incest horribly disgusting.

Totally agree with you in modern days, but we have to remember that this is a medieval fantasy world, and incest and sexual relationships between cousins and family members was incredibly common in that era!

Yes but you'll also notice while incest is a really prevalent theme it is never shown in a very positive light. It produced the mad king, joffery, and deni's brother. Obviously there are characters produced by incest that are good but even deni seems to struggle in similar ways to her father at times. It was actually pointed out in the convo between tyrian and varys in the last episode. I feel like it wouldn't be true to the show to have a strong healthy relationship in incest.

Incest between siblings is considered taboo - that's why the Targaryen's are viewed so negatively and have the "mad" gene, and why Cersei and Jaime hide their relationship. Other instances of incest are accepted, like cousins (Rhaegar x Elia, Tywin x Joanna, Targaryens x Velaryons, Tyrells x Redwynes). There hasn't been an instance of uncle/aunt and nephew/niece that I can find, but I don't see how it would be that big of a deal when first cousins are perfectly acceptable in this medieval world.

Right? I definitely don't condone incest hahaha, but in the scope of a fantasy world, especially one that takes a lot of political and social inspiration from medieval times, I find it super interesting.

It is. I still don't believe they'll ever be a thing because they have made a pretty big deal of them being related, but it's still interesting to know overall it'd be socially acceptable in their time. I do think though if she finds out he's half targerian his children will be next in line to the throne because she can't have kids
