I was drawn to this because of my fondness for Iris's. A lovely composition.

Ah, thank you, Robert. We surely do agree on our love of Irises! OH. Idid not intend to have comments turned of on Colombines. I slipped up there, but won't bother to edit it. Some times I like to go for the delicate side with watercolors. What has taken me years to learn with watercolors is that the results that I want are best achieved by wetting the paper first, or wetting an area first before applying color. That way the watercolor and paper does the work for you. (If I let it!)

That's neat! I have to try partial wetting. I did actual full wetting first doing the gradated wash on Autumn Morning and let that dry before going in with the trees... but I have to try that with wetting only an area and then charging different colors into it. Maybe letting it bead up and get darker and flow in particular directions. That'll be cool! Thanks!

I think you will find it fun. For the kids at school where I volunteer I have let them use straws to blow it around on the paper making "'blottos" or just designs. That way they get to learn how the capillary action of the paper reacts with watercolors.

That sounds fun too! One of my watercolor books described doing a streaked wash by putting the colors on and then tilting the paper so they all run at an angle, creating a sky with this brilliant wash of light coming through a gap in the clouds. I want to try that sky on something, and I'm waiting till I can order frisket paper to cut out a mask for the landscape under it rather than use up all my masking fluid trying to cover a large area. And use different colors in my sky, since I love storm clouds and like mixing them.

We just don't have time to try everything, do we?

Not all at once, anyway. I'm finding things I thought of trying years ago starting to come into reach when they do, when my skills are up to it. It's more that I'll get a lot of ideas all at the same time and they're all good and distinguishing which one I want to do now is hard.

Exactly. I will have to live to be 200 to be able to do all the things that come into my mind - fat chance of that happening.!

Oh hey, it's something to try for! Besides, it's the journey that counts. I figure if I lasted till a thousand I'd never run out of ideas.

The power of positive thinking at work!!

Yep! It was an odd, pleasant surprise to discover that the positive thinking is my natural reaction to things, not difficult at all except in immediate crises like say, the shelter or eviction or whatever. I used to think I was depressed, now I know that's only the pain talking on bad days. And don't make real decisions on pain days.
