Agreed...we'll always have the "MedStar" series (my favorite EU/Legends books) thankfully, but it indeed would have been nice to have seen this noble Jedi profession in the CW. Not only are there plenty of great stories that could have been told of Jedi Healers amidst the backdrop of a violent galactic war, but we'd have very likely seen that much more of Barriss as she displayed her beautiful gift/Force specialty for viewers around the world! In fact, it wouldn't have been difficult to work in at least SOME of the "MedStar" material, as none of it really contradicts anything that was specifically seen or said in the show (one reason I still basically consider it canon, for all relevant purposes). But yeah...I feel ya 100% on this one.
Awesome, I'm so glad that I was able to interpret the piece fairly correctly for the most part! At times I've wondered if it's merely my imagination running wild with the things I conclude (not that I think there's anything wrong with that when it comes to personal artistic interpretation), but I swear there are just certain elements and subtle implications that stand out to me...and I simply read accordingly. Oh, and I definitely agree that Barrissoka, like any relationship (especially a romantic one), took a deal of time to build and followed a progression of innocent interactions that became playfully cautious personal inquiries and physical gestures (brushing hair aside, laying a hand on one's leg while sharing a laugh, comforting back rubs, etc.), eventually evolving into the desired intimate union that both hoped for. That type of attention to detail (both visual and conceptual in a piece's story) along with its realism amidst what is basically fantastical myth makes for the very successful work that you produce, in my opinion...I am most definitely already very much a fan, even though my time here has been brief thus far. I am currently familiarizing myself with your Barrissoka works more after recently discovering/commenting on a couple of your wonderful productions (including this one) highlighting this subject...I will be sure to read your comic and comment on it! Your misty, swirly stuff is made of epix. Is it inside a globe?

I made it on a transparent layer in GIMP 2.8. It is completely 2D and not present in the 3D scene. I put a light source where it should be and rendered the scene. Then, I added it in during post work and carefully moved, scaled and erased it to appear to be between Barriss' hands. I then did the same process again for the window reflection only while giving it more transparency to fit better with Barriss' reflection.
I sort of feel like doing that sort of thing in 2D during post is cheating considering the art medium, but I DID NOT want to try making the Force Heal swirlygig in 3D lol.

Oh! And I just noticed you used her more classic robes, Barriss' I mean, at least I think they are! So, well done, sir!

Yeah...especially after how I didn't like how she turned out, so any time I see "classic Barriss" it's like I've come home, back to where things made sense, and all was right with the world!

Oh, wow Crimson! This is extraordinary! You got the dim lighting down in this (at least it looks legit to my eye), and the reflections on the glass, awesome! Just plain awesome! And the background (supposing it's Coruscant has a very Mcquarrie-esk Matte painting look, with that classic Sci-fi outlandish spirit! One of your best of the two of them I'd say

Thank you so much! I really need to look back and study this render. I did it late at night when I couldn't sleep. I never in a million years would've dreamed that something done on a whim would rise to one of my best renders ever! I need to really analyze it and figure out what I did to make this great. I would love to say that this is a testament to how good of an artist I am, but I'm self-accountable enough to admit that this was a fluke.

Problem is, if you analyze it too much, you won't be able to repeat it or find out what made it so great, most likely! Seems to be one of those things that are best when you're NOT thinking about it. Some of the best songs I wrote back in the day were ones either late in the night, or ones I got done with in about a half-hour without much thought. Just happens that way, I guess.

You're getting better all the time. Your use of lighting in this image helps to make the scene more realistic. I haven't even attempted to use reflections yet, and effects in the reflection are supposed to be pretty tricky.

Maybe instead of playing hit and miss, you should seek out some legit tutorials to help you be more consistent in your lighting choices? I find it helps me find answers to questions that I didn't even know that I had when I'm following some structured learning plans. It will also help to improve your confidence!

This is truly amazing. It looks like a scene from a story book, with all the little details, even the background landscape and reflections. Kind of all the more painful when you think of how Barris' story ended. (Or didn't. Darn it, we deserved an explanation!)

This looks magnificent. you are sharpening your skills well, my friend. I did a quick download to see things up close. I can tell that you included Ahsoka's fangs into the render. The coalescing energy that Barriss holds
looks flawless from what i can see. You get better with each render completed.
