hehe cute shot, I love how he's looking at the address this proves that watermarks and signatures don't always ruin the shot!

I love the fact that he's the only thing in the picture, and I also really like the almost black background. makes the pic more simple and makes the polecat stand out more, but not too much.

Hello Mr. Whiskers! eeee I love whiskery faces

It's so nice having him be the only thing in the shot. Super nice of the keepers to help get the pose for you!

Ha, he's covered in whiskers

Yeah, the keepers at the British Wildlife Centre are always trying to help people get good shots, they're amazingly nice people there

Haha, the keeper was feeding him at the time, so maybe it was her food he shouldn't trust

Thanks!

They're really similar, not sure what the difference is really

Mikaboshi In reply to Alannah-Hawker [2010-05-08 14:55:27 +0000 UTC]

found a big old article that highlights the differences.

[link]

I skimmed. Seems mostly two chromosomes, some slight skull differences, behavior is a bit off, and not much else

Basically they're the same species, but the polecat is wild and the ferret is domesticated, unless you're talking about the black footed ferret, which is a different species.

All credit to the keepers here. They're wonderful people at the wildlife centre. The keeper help the food too high on purpose so he'd look up like this for me

Thanks Victoria!

Thanks Wendy!

WendyLynn In reply to Alannah-Hawker [2010-05-08 18:02:44 +0000 UTC]

Haha, yeah, I'm the one with ferrets! They're doing good! I actually had a genius idea of how to automatically trim their nails so I don't have to do it like every freaking week. A little square of wood with sandpaper glued to all sides. You put anything in their cage and they'll scratch and dig at it. The idea came to me while I was filing my nails. Brilliant, eh?

Alannah-Hawker In reply to WendyLynn [2010-05-16 23:42:53 +0000 UTC]

Ha, that's actually a really good idea! Is it working well then or do you still have to do it each week?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

WendyLynn In reply to Alannah-Hawker [2010-05-17 00:31:30 +0000 UTC]

I think they're still getting used to it. 'Tis a strange feeling!
