I haven't read the last few issues of The Amazing Spider-Man yet, but I heard the news and I'm scared to look in them. Peter Parker is my favorite not just comic book character, but also my favorite fictional character at all. I'm a major fan of Peter Parker. So should I read them or forget about the last few issues?

it's up to you to decide. i recommend reading them in your comic book store and if you don't like what happens in asm700, throw them away.

I feel your pain. I was quite upset initially, but after a bit I had to laugh at the ridiculousness of it. Here's hoping that this ill-contrived storyline ends sooner than later.

i really wonder who and why greenlighted this kind of crap! i mean from all possible options they had to bring a new direction to the series, they chose the most stupid i've ever seen to date...this is a whole new level of fail in my opinion and i really hope they will feel their idiotic idea through dropping sales.

Wow, that's horrible. What a shame. Ruining one of the greatest characters in comics like that.

yeah, humiliating him to the worst in an anniversary book is really hardcore.
but it's just because they are trying to get the next big "shock" moment, no matter the consequences and this behaviour will lead to a universe-reboot in the next 5 years i think.

Ugh, I hate that word - "reboot." No point in investing in stories if they decide to scrap it all at any moment.

No reboot for the DU planned...but a restructuring might not be too far off.

yeah, with all the heroes and villains it got, it might become a little chaotic!
btw, are you ever planning on introducing a new category of OCs? something like "neutral" or "anti-hero" or "vigilante" or whatever...you know, for all the characters that are not clearly hero or villain!

mja42x In reply to alecyl [2012-12-21 00:48:14 +0000 UTC]
I do plan on adding a few more categories in 2013, but no 'anti-hero' one. I'm going to stick with good ol' fashioned Good vs. Bad. I was never a fan of "anti-heroes". In my eyes (and as for its definition), an anti-hero is technically a villain that tries to do good, but in a non-hero way. I prefer to keep the sides clear, similar to how they were during cartoons of the 80's.

The way I see it, a hero is labeled a hero for doing good, while a villain is labeled a villain for doing bad. If a hero does bad, then essentially, that makes that character a villain, and vice versa. While heroes or villains can 'struggle' with their intentions, their actions should always be defined for who they essentially are: a hero or villain. The DU is made up like this. You're either a good guy, or bad guy. That's why I tell people that have "anti-heroes" which side they intend to be more, and then choose that side.
Personally, that's why I liked 80's cartoons so much. You clearly saw the difference between heroes vs. villains (good vs. bad). These days, "anti-hero" characters can confuse young readers that are still impressionable and looking for a role model.
But even though there won't be an "anti-hero" category (it'll remain Heroes or Villains), I do have plans for a restructuring that will help with the overabundance of characters (many of which are not used).

i see your point and it makes perfect sense to keep it like that.
however as you sure know in the history of comics there were many heroes that were villains once and heroes that turned into villains (hawkeye was a criminal originally, as was luke cage, magneto and emma frost, jean grey turned into dark phoenix, cyclops is now a villain, etc, it changes all the time, so i hope it is okay if we change the status of a character throughout their journey!

I'm glad I read this. I plan on making Imogen Airy a hero eventually. I'd always had it planned that after her 1st run in with Pentagram she would change her mind about using her powers for someone else's benefit

What the actual FUCK? Can we find & murder the writers of that piss poor excuse of a story at Christmas? I loved Spidey & they do that to him?

Yeah Ultimate Peter Parker went down fighting the ultimate fight then was replaced by someone I think has been just as good (though I haven't been following that Spidey as much). You'd think they could come up with something better to kill off the main Spider-Man I mean he's been around for 50 years the guy deserved death with dignity. I would've been happy with something like a mass fight between Parker & a large portion of his rouges gallery. Just imagine how a fight with him vs guys like Rhino, Scorpion, Electro, Mysterio & every other villain he's ever faced all at once. Spidey's good but I doubt he would've survived an all out attack like that meaning he could go out fighting

i just hope they will notice rather sooner than later what kind of crap they produced and change it back asap, because i'm pretty sure this will piss people off much more than one more day did!

To be honest you'd think with a popular character like Spider-Man the writers would want to tread carefully with him. He's probably the most recognisable character in comics alongside Batman, Superman & Deadpool & with a fan base that large it's probably not a great idea to piss them off. I'm surprised they actually went ahead with it though they've been threatening to kill him off for the past 2 years at least & always changed their minds in the end. It's part of the reason I tend to stick to a select group of comics now like Deadpool. They have a winning formula with him that no one would be crazy enough to play around with. I've gotten back into the X-Men as well. No matter what they do with them they always seem to make it work out in the end even if it means the fans are pissed off for a little while

personally, i think with asm700 i have arrived a point where i'm starting to wonder if it actually makes sense to read ongoing series!
i mean, i like stuff that ends. there's no problem with a spin-off of a story that ended and a spin-off of the spin-off and so on, but
just going on and on leads to crap like we have now and eventually it is ruining the image of a character we've grown to love and care for!

I can see what you mean. When you have too many writers working on the same thing eventually it'll get screwed up. I don't mind if they kill off a character but if it's going to be the end for them then they deserve a decent death not being stuck in someone else's body to die. They've done it to characters a lot less important to the universe than Spidey so why screw him over? Even Nightcrawler got a more honourable death & he's a lot less known than Spider-Man

because controversy sells. everyone will be talking about this book and this is good ad for marvel.
remember one more day? spidey cut a deal with the devil, which caused a huge discussion around the www, now imagine what kind of wave this story will cause.
but what they are not thinking of is that they might scare off a whole lot of fans in the long run with crap like that.
i mean really, who wants to read a book about a well known spidey villain (ock was in the second movie so everyone knows him) who killed off the real spidey and occupied his body and now tries to be spidey.
this is just horrible if you look at it in the long run!
(though i think they have some kind of backup plan to retcon the whole thing if they notice the fans hate it)

MadMonkeyDane In reply to alecyl [2012-12-21 01:38:32 +0000 UTC]
Yeah I get your point but in that case why use a villain like Doc Ock? Why not use 1 of the big time genius villains? Even the clone saga had a better villain screwing with Spidey's life. The guy got him think he was the clone that's gotta take some skill. All Doc Ock has done is be a living punching bag every time he shows up I can't think of 1 time he's effectively messed with Spider-Man's life on the same scale as the Jackel

MadMonkeyDane In reply to alecyl [2012-12-21 02:02:43 +0000 UTC]
Yeah you can't have Spidey without Parker unless you replace him with someone just as good like they did with the new Ultimate Spider-Man. It's been years since I read the clone saga I must've forgotten about Osborn but I did remember Jackal being in it. To be honest I only recalled that much thanks to his involvement in Spider Island where he revived Tarantula & didn't seem to stop talking about the clones he'd made to mess with Spidey all those years ago

I kinda like the spider sting it makes sense since some spiders can paralyze with a bite but I don't get the camouflage. Jackal seems to always be the pawn to someone that could easily crush him especially in Spider Island where he worked for the Spider-Queen. To be honest I think I'd rather work for her than risk getting torn apart by her & the mutated people of New York lol
