Kaine's always been pretty cool to me & like you said at least his "deaths" haven't been half arsed storylines. Doc Ock could've easily done something much more impressive then a failed attempt at mind swapping

I dunno about his deaths, but his "birth"(the Clone Saga) was the all-time biggest insult to Spider-Man readers, even more than the Mephisto divorce. "Hey guys, the Peter Parker you've been reading about for 20 years? He's a fake! And we're making him lose his powers so we can put this character we created a few years ago, who's actually the REAL Lee/Ditko Peter Parker, in his place permanently!" I'll take Superior Spider-Man over anything from that era. :/
The recent Kaine series was very good, though. I'm from Houston so maybe I'm biased.

Yeah I gotta admit the Clone Saga was a total cluster fuck of weirdness. I didn't read it when it was released but I tried to give it a go a couple of years back & gave up. I couldn't make sense of what was happening. For me the only good things to come from it was Kaine & the original Scarlet Spider. Dunno why but I always kind of liked his design.

Yeah Peter Parker is still in his own body trying to regain control. It was revealed he managed to get himself back into his own body just as Doc Ock's died & has been haunting him since. To be honest though the mind swap thing was pretty much a long shot in the 1st place. If Doc Ock was dying why would he risk something that had a high chance of faliure? Why not transfer his mind into some kind of robotic body on the level of Rhino? Spidey always have trouble taking him on & at least if that failed it wouldn't have been a do or die situation. There are so many ways they could've played it & it seems like they went for the lamest which just comes across as a slap in the face to Spidey fans

yeah, but afaik ock is still in control and peter can't do anything but watch.
anyway, i tell you why they did it: for one because of the controversy -> sells books.
and as a longterm idea, they want to completely destroy spideys image within the story itself so once peter's in control again, his life lies in ruins and everybody, including the other heroes, hate or at least don't trust him, just like it was when he first started.
it's basically another reboot in disguise.

Although Peter is slowly regaining control just not very easily. I still think they could've come up with something better than a mind swap to create controversy & the idea of ruining his life has been done so many times it's a cliche now. The clone saga was probably the best attempt at that & even got Peter wondering if he was the real 1 or just another clone but even after that ordeal he still managed to prove his innocence & get everyone back on side again. I'm not sure how Doc Ock plans on ruining his life though since he's now decided to be a border line anti-hero & managed to make Jameson a Spidey fan. Seems like the complete opposite of ruining his life to me if anything he's made being Spider-Man easier on himself & better for the superhero community. I think they may have gone off track with this storyline & I have a feeling when it's done both Doc Ock & Parker will be in control like some kind of mind meld. I actually wouldn't object to that since it would help make Spider-Man even better than before. The way they've gone about it though seems like some bad fanfic got into the writing process though and ended up being published
