Description I shot this in Wynnum Manly, Brisbane. There are a heap of derilict old boats out there; they make great subjects for HDR.

You are right, that is an excellent place to capture images for HDR!

I have to say, this shot is extremely beautiful. One of the first aspects that caught my attention was the dock area, that creates leading lines all the way to the back of the image, plus it gives a feeling of symmetry. The boats themselves are quite interesting as well: I adore the way the boat on the right is out in the front, while the second one is hidden and the third even more so.

You did a great job when it came to the colors as well. Some artists that use HDR tend to overdo the colors and make it seem very unnatural. Though this is not completely natural, it fits with the photograph, and is not overdone. The only thing I think could have been lightened a bit would be the clouds, since somehow the dark gray seems out of place.

One thing that bothers me a little is the blurriness that can be seen, especially with the sides. This may be due to the lens distortion, which I believe can be fixed in Photoshop. This could also be due to the fact that the leaves and such were not in the exact same position in all the shots you used (this one is tough since you can't control it, unfortunately).

Overall, excellent use of HDR! Keep up the good work.

Thankyou SO much for your critique!! You made some great points and your encouragment is really exciting. You're spot on about the grey in clouds, it was difficult to bring out the blue because it was so overcast but I'll have another go at it; now you've pointed it out I can't stop looking at it!
It's wonderful getting such encouraging and informed feedback, I can't thankyou enough!

I have spent hours reading about HDR and looking at tuts and I have downloaded photomatix as well to try it out. I am getting it more and more... will try it out soon and show you my results. HOW EXCITING!
