Description I am not going to deny that when I was a child and had nothing to do since I was the only one who got up early in the house, I would turn on the television and watch Cartoon Network in the hope of finding if they broadcasted a Christmas movie in the morning and although I grew up watching the films of the animation company Goodtimes Animation, the truth is that the animation that these films have has never been to my liking, but I really enjoyed the stories and with this film, I had a good time watching it and I wasn’t completely bored, since it is one of my favorite Christmas movies and especially because I really liked the songs it had. This movie I'm talking about is called: “The Nutcracker”, the Goodtimes version, which sticks a little closer to the original story based on the 1892 Russian ballet by composer Piotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, released in 1994.
The story of the Nutcracker begins with a snowy night at the Stahalbaum family home with the two children of the house waiting for the clock to strike midnight so they can open their Christmas presents, asking their parents permission and they accept: the eldest daughter's name is Marie (instead of being called Clara as in the original story) and the youngest son is called Fritz, who really enjoys teasing his older sister. When the two children approach the Christmas tree to open their presents, the bell rings and the family runs to open the door with the arrival of godfather Drosselmeier, who is a watchmaker and toy maker and shows the children a beautiful toy castle which he has built, but Fritz does not pay as much attention to it and prefers to play with his toy soldiers, but Marie expresses amazement and joy at her godfather's creation and he tells Marie to come closer to the Christmas tree since there is a surprise there for her and when Marie approaches the tree, she discovers a nutcracker and is delighted with it, but her brother Fritz, to annoy her, takes her nutcracker from her and puts several nuts in his mouth so that he can break them, breaking the nutcracker's jaw to which Marie, angry, bandages the nutcracker's mouth and takes him to the couch and without realizing it, she falls asleep and when she wakes up she realizes that an army of mice has arrived commanded by the seven-headed mouse king, who orders them to attack and just at that moment, godfather Drosselmeier appears transformed into an owl above the clock and gives life to the toy soldiers and the nutcracker, who begin to fight against the mice while the Nutcracker fights the Mouse King and just when the Mouse King is about to finish the Nutcracker, Marie throws her slipper at the Mouse King, managing to hit him but accidentally, she trips and falls to the ground, hitting her head and falling unconscious. When Marie wakes up the next morning, her mother and brother are with her, until her godfather Drosselmeier arrives and when Marie questions him about what happened the night before, godfather Drosselmeier asks Marie if she believes that the nutcracker is ugly, Marie denies it even though her godfather tells her that the Nutcracker is aware that he is ugly and decides to tell Marie the story of the Nutcracker: it turns out that a long time ago, Godfather Drosselmeier was the clockmaker of the castle, where the king, the queen and their little daughter Princess Perlipat lived, but unfortunately, the kingdom has been invaded by mice, to which the king orders Drosselmeier to set traps throughout the castle to capture all the mice and Drosselmeier manages to capture all the mice except Madame Mousey (the mouse queen), who threatens the king and the queen one night by telling them that she will put a curse on their daughter, but the king scare her away and upon seeing this in the morning, the king orders Drosselmeier to come up with something else to save his daughter; so Drosselmeier meets with the wise men of the court and they come to the conclusion that the princess must always be accompanied by six maidens and each of them with a cat to keep the mouse queen away, but unfortunately and taking advantage of the moment in which everyone was sleeping, the mouse queen entered the room and put a curse on Princess Perlipat making her become ugly and once again, the king orders Drosselmeier to find a solution for the princess to uplift her curse and Drosselmeier along with one of the wise men say that the only way for the curse to be broken is for the princess to eat a chestnut nnut cracked with the teeth of a young man who has never worn boots and has never shaved, but since there are no chestnut nuts anywhere, Drosselmeier together with one of the wise men spend 15 years searching without success for a chestnut nut, until Drosselmeier meets his cousin who tells him that he has a chestnut nut just as he tells him that his son has never worn boots or shaved his beard, and so, Drosselmeier takes his nephew to the castle and tells the king and the queen that if his nephew manages to break the princess's curse, he will marry her and the king agrees and so, the nephew manages to break the chestnut nut with his teeth and gives it to the princess and she becomes beautiful again, but just at that moment, the mouse queen appears and puts a curse on Hans, turning him into a nutcracker, but when he falls to the ground, he crushes the mouse queen, and she swears that she will take revenge on the nutcracker before she dies, and Drosselmeier tells the king and queen that they must now fulfill their promise to help his nephew, but Princess Perlipat refuses to marry the Nutcracker, calling him ugly and the king kicks Drosselmeier out of the castle and while Drosselmeier thinks about how to help his nephew, one of the wise men tells him that to break the curse, the Nutcracker must kill the mouse queen's son, the seven-headed mouse king, and that a good-hearted young girl must fall in love with the Nutcracker despite his ugliness, to which Drosselmeier listens and leaves the castle, thus ending the story of the nutcracker. When Godfather Drosselmeier finishes telling the story, Marie says that Princess Perlipat was very cruel and that she loves the Nutcracker even though he is ugly and after Godfather Drosselmeier leaves the house, Marie receives a visit from the Mouse King who threatens her that if she doesn't give him her Christmas candy, he will chew the Nutcracker to pieces, to which Marie accepts and so for three nights, the mouse king returns and asks Marie to give him her books and dresses and Marie accepts, regretting having lost her things but willing to do anything to save the Nutcracker and even though Marie tells her parents and her brother what happened, no one believes her but Drosselmeier tells her to keep her promise and that something wonderful will await her at the end and before the third night happens, the Nutcracker tells Marie to give him a sword to fight the Mouse King and Marie asks Fritz to lend her a sword from one of his toy soldiers, to which Fritz agrees and during the night, The Nutcracker and the Mouse King fight and the Nutcracker manages to defeat the Mouse King and gives Marie the 7 crowns of the Mouse King and invites her to his kingdom in the Land of Toys, revealing to her that he is a prince and that she will become his princess if she agrees to marry him and the two spend the whole night dancing in the castle and the next morning, Marie wakes up in her bed, but discovers that the nutcracker is nowhere to be found, when godfather Drosselmeier arrives accompanied by his nephew, he tells Marie that he was the Nutcracker and asks her to live with him in his kingdom and so, Marie and the prince go to his castle and the two live happily ever after.
The truth is that this movie is the third version of the Nutcracker that I have seen after having watched “Barbie In The Nutcracker” and “The Nutcracker Prince”, but although the movie does not have such beautiful animation, I think the story is great and unique in its narrative and it is very memorable because it brings back beautiful memories of my childhood from when I saw it on Cartoon Network and seeing it again makes me relive my childhood with love and melancholy and with nothing more to say, I wish you all a very happy Christmas for you and your family. 🎅🏻🧑🏻‍🎄🥛🍪🦌🎄🌨️❄️☃️⛄️🎊🎉🎁🧸
