Description If there is a film that has marked me in my childhood and that to this day I remember with great affection, since I found the story most inspiring and touching, but at the same time dark and cruel, due to the strong themes that it handles, but that are life lessons that sooner or later end up reaching one in the depths of its being. I have seen this film countless times in VHS format with my parents, my big sister and my grandparents and somehow, every time I see it, it always fills my heart with joy and sadness at the same time, because you empathize with the characters and you care what can happen to them and whenever I see it, it brings tears to my eyes and the Diana Ross song: "If we hold on together" is one of my favorite songs and this film has undoubtedly helped me grow up and face the reality like no other movie has during my childhood. This film is called: "The Land Before Time", directed and produced by Don Bluth, released in 1989. This story takes place in the era of dinosaurs, when they migrated to "The Great Valley", a place where they could to be safe from predators and where there was plenty of food for herbivores. The film mainly focuses on a young apatosaurus named Littlefoot (who is known to his species as "longneck") who along with his mother and grandparents migrate to The Great Valley and along the way, meets a young triceratops named Cera ( who her species is known as "threehorn", who is very rude and bully and whose father is very racist) and according to dinosaurs, only similar species live with their own species instead of different species. One night, Littlefoot meets Cera again and the two have fun playing with a frog, when suddenly, their game is interrupted by the arrival of a ferocious and dangerous Tyrannosaurus Rex (in the movie they call it "sharp tooth") who attacks them, but Littlefoot's mother intervenes fighting the tyrannosaurus to save the life of her son, but ends up seriously injured during the fight and unfortunately at the same time an earthquake occurs separating the families and then comes the saddest scene in the entire movie, because Littlefoot's mother dies in front of her son, but not before reminding him that she is always with him and telling him which way is to get to the Great Valley (without a doubt, the death of Littlefoot's mother has always seemed sadder to me than the death of Mufasa and Bambi's mother) and poor Littlefoot enters a stage of mourning, unable to accept the death of his mother and saddened because Cera did not want to go with him to The Great Valley, but later Littlefoot meets other dinosaurs that join him on his way home: a young haplosaurus named Ducky (who is called “swimmer” to her species and is very cheerful, cute and optimistic), a young pteranodon named Petrie (who is called “flyer” to his species, who is very scared most of the time and is afraid to fly at the beginning) and a young stegosaurus named Spike (who calls his species "spiketail" and is a big eater) and later Cera joins them and thus, the five young dinosaurs will learn the importance of working as a team and staying together to get home safely while being closely followed by the tyrannosaurus and little by little, a beautiful and lasting friendship begins to be born between the five different species and at the end of the film, the five manage to defeat the Tyrannosaurus and arrive together at The Great Valley where they reunite with their families.
Without a doubt, the film has always been very beautiful to me and the animation and music are really unique and although there are scenes that make me cry a lot, the film conveys the message of the importance of teamwork, unity and friendship, as well as issues such as racism, depression, cruelty and death, but with a touch of hope which makes it moving and it is a film that is hard for me to see now as an adult because of how strong it comes to me the messages and to be honest, I watched almost all the sequels of this franchise as well as the television series that was broadcast on Cartoon Network, where Chomper and Ruby later join their team, but all those do not surpass the original work, and these five characters belong to a beautiful memory from my childhood, because I grew up together with them and it fills my heart to remember with great joy this great film and how it will always be part of my memories of my childhood and my adult life.
