My first thought is Lucy as a menstruation. Growing up means being innocent no more, that's why she's a fallen angel.

Forlorn Lucy is as heartbreaking as she is beautiful. Her sadness and fear show very well in how she's sitting and almost curling into a ball; the nervous way she's looking at the viewer suggests that she's not sure if the other's presence is a good or bad thing – for her or the viewer. The contrast of her angel wings with her blood (the scary onset of maturity) could be a metaphor about how growing older has enlightened her yet also made her even more aware of the badness this world has to offer.
…or maybe I'm just reading way too much into it – but only because it's so lovely and moving that I want an excuse to look a little longer. Thanks.
