I think the two versions of Sonic the Hedgehog take place at different times.

Either:

The Genesis Version (16-bit) takes place before the Game Gear Version (8-bit).
Sonic finds out that Marble Zone has been blown up. On his way to fight Sonic in Green Hill Zone a second time, Eggman (Robotnik) had dropped countless bombs in the Zone using the Mobile that we fight in Star Light Zone. Then Sonic hears about Bridge Zone, and that he can cross a river to get to where he's going. This alternate route ends up taking him into Jungle Zone, because Spring Yard Zone is too far out of the way after crossing Bridge Zone. There are ruins at the end of Jungle Zone, that connect it to Spring Yard Zone, those ruins are actually Labyrinth Zone. Sonic ends up finding an alternate route in Labyrinth Zone that he totally missed on his first mission in the Genesis Version, which lets him bypass Starlight Zone, and takes him directly to Scrap Brain Zone. Then he finds out that Eggman planned ahead this time, and built the Sky Base Zone, where Sonic must now go to finish him off and save South Island and the rest of Mobius from disaster.

Or:

The Game Gear Version (8-bit) takes place before the Genesis Version (16-bit).
Sonic finds out that Bridge Zone is burnt and has crumbled away from fire hazards. Eggman (Robotnik) drove his Mobile that we fight in the Marble Zone over there before fighting Sonic in Green Hill Zone. Sonic must now go into Marble Zone to get to his destination. This alternate route drops him off at Spring Yard Zone, because Jungle Zone is many miles away after getting out of Marble Zone. There are ruins at the end of Spring Yard Zone, that connect it to Jungle Zone, those ruins are actually Labyrinth Zone. Sonic's usual route has been blocked off, so he's forced to come out of there and run through Starlight Zone before going into Scrap Brain Zone. Knowing what happened on his first mission, Sonic must hurry and stop Eggman from building another Sky Base Zone. So after fighting him in Scrap Brain Zone, Sonic gives Eggman's Egg-Mobile one good smash as it's taking off, sending Eggman crashing before he could do anything else.

Either way, you did a great job on these sprites!

i don't think skybase will ever have genesis sprites considering the creator of sonic 1 8-bit remake left the fangame community
