Description With the British government's exile in India, a strange, mismatched society emerged. Democratic and monarchical; progressive and traditional; secular and sectarian, socialist and feudal; poor and rich; multicultural and colonial; oriental and occidental; the Indian Empire all these things--a puzzling mass of contradictions.

The imperial arms features the Indian escutcheon of a peacock in the first and fourth quarterlies, as well as those of England, Ireland, and Scotland.  Supporting the escutcheon is the Indian Bengal tiger, collared with the Ashoka Chakra and crowned with the Imperial Crown of India, and the English lion with the Tudor crown. Girting the escutcheon is the insignia of the Most Exalted Order of the Star of India, founded by queen Victoria to to honor her most prominent Maharajas. In addition to the rose, thistle, and shamrock of the old United Kingdom, the lotuses of India grow from the British motto DIEU ET MON DROIT. Cresting the Imperial Crown are lions in imitation of Ashoka's Capital, and above this the Indian slogan: सत्यमेव जयते.

Whether the empire is, in truth, Indian or British is up to interpretation, but imperial arms itself may reveal the answer. Though the tiger and the peacocks of India proudly stand as dexter supporter and in the first and fourth quarterlies, the positions of honor, all three of them look to the Tudor-crowned English lion.

One thing, however, is certain: by GOD AND MY RIGHT, TRUTH ALONE TRIUMPHS!

Very good. Well thought out, and imaginative use of traditional arms.

I did a version myself. Very amateurish, wikified, but amateurish compared to yours. I also coloured the crown so it resembled the physical Imperial Crown of India more, (gave it a purple cap, made the arches shades of silver - well grey actually -, etc etc).

Do you have svg. files for the lotus part of the compartment and the ashoka lion gules Devanagari script motto?

Afraid not. The lotuses were pretty simple to make, just drawing a peddle and rotating it a few times. The motto was made using Gimp's text along path function. As for the crest, I made that out the lions on the Scottish arms and on this mysterious thing: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Court_of…

Great stuff indeed! I had to wait several years for to finish his map so I could even begin working on the arms. He could learn something about punctuality from you!

Reminds me of how I finished the map in two nights and when you started the coat of arms you paused for... 7+ months? Perhaps Alexander here could show you how to keep motivated in creating Coats of Arms.

Oh I'm motivated, I just work on it slow and steady XD It's a style I'm not used to at all (I usually draw simple and flat). This is probably the most complex project I've ever done.
