Description Looking over the plaza in front of the Federal Courthouse towards the clock tower atop the Government Center. (I can't remember the name of the building, right off hand)

Playing with adjustment layers and selective desaturation.

Overall

Vision

Originality

Technique

Impact

This is quite an artistic photo because the contrast between black and white is made even better when the whole photo is black and white. The vision is completely fine, and is made even better with the black and white tones.

The originality is good, but could still be made bettert by tweaking little things. Such as, capturing something to signify where this photo is being taken place. The black and white heps a little with originality.

For yor technique, it could be better. The way you shot this photo, makes it seem like the buildings are tipping over. Also, there are quite a few glares from light around the picture, which distracts attention.

Like I said, this is a very artistic photo, and the Impact is excellent as well. Keep up the good work. e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/sā€¦ " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Smile)"/>

Thank you for the thoughtful critique!

I feel that, for the most part, it is fairly grounded in its location. However, that could certainly be because I walk by those buildings every day. : )

As for my technique, I'm experimenting with angles that are just a bit off. I chose this photo because of the motion towards the upper left, where the clock tower was illuminated from behind by another building behind it. I think that helped accentuate the red clock hands as a focal point of the piece. I feel mixed about the street lamps creating those flares at the bottom. In a way, they draw attention towards the entrance, which is the only little bit of blue in the picture, but then they draw attention away from the clock tower. I guess it creates a dissatisfying conflict between focal points.

As I experiment with off-angled shots, I am attempting to direct motion in the frame in a certain way. If, however, that is only making them feel off-kilter and imbalanced, then I definitely want to hear about it! : )

Thanks again!

Okay, it's always good to experiment with different ideas. I didn't necessary like the technique in this picture, but other photographers might disagree.
