I presume that red ribons are affiliated to the story with a traditional tale of a young woman who persisted in wearing a velvet band around her neck night and day. When her new husband removed it while she slept, her head fell off. She had earlier been executed, but kept alive by the witchcraft of the band. One theory has it that the story was inspired by the red thread which was tied around the necks of those intended for the guillotine during the French Revolution, to make the place where the blade should fall.And the nudity is a representation of pure virginity.

Brilliant concept, I always love looking at art in which the subtext is not always apparent at first-glance.
