Whitley was close enough to the twenty megaton bomb that hit the Borough of Queens to be enveloped by the chalky brilliance, rocked by the blast and sent scrambling out of the bus into the bleeding crowd thronging the yellow dust-filled street.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
