Big Project just finished, this is a late medieval 'bauernwehr', a big utility/hunting knife, part tool part weapon. These are normally associated with Germany and Central Europe, and generally fairly low status. I have made this as a three piece set, with a large knife, a smaller byknife, and a pricker, a general purpose awl which can also be used for sharpening. The blades are all hand forged from high carbon steel, brought to a mirror polish, and have steel fittings and rivets and yew handles with a mixture of the heartwood and sapwood of the tree.They are all held together in a multi pocketed leather sheath, which has tooled vine decoration and a fabricated steel chape. Lots of firsts with this one!
