It was, she thought, rather odd to wake up and not recognize the body you were in. She hadn't always had this problem. Or, well, she didn't think she had. Truthfully she couldn't remember, but the legs beneath her felt strange and the great weight upon her head pulled it in unexpected directions.

"You're a Hiccup." she was told by the odd cat that lived in the barn of the little old lady who'd found her in the woods. "A magical mistake. Woke up in the woods alone, don't quite feel right in your own body? It's very common. You were probably human, Before. Most of us were. Have faith, you'll find your feet." And he introduced her to her barn mates. He was Sampson, a once, and perhaps future prince. Roberto was Spanish, and also a cat. "No one knows his story. Doesn't speak common, or at least we can't get a word out of him that isn't Spanish." Oreo, a black and white spotted pipsqueak of a cat had used to be a chicken. "Spells go awry, hit the wrong person. Or chicken, in this case. It happens."

Maggie was the owner of the wooded cottage. "She's a witch. Mostly love potions and minor spells for the villagers, but she takes in Hiccups and helps us find our place. You'll figure yourself out eventually, have faith."

She did find a place, helping lead travelers to the well-hidden house. Maggie tied a lantern to her horn and sent her out on the long walks. Sometimes Sampson would come along, sprawled across her back, lazily telling stories of his life before becoming a Hiccup. "Have faith," he'd always say, "things will shake themselves out in the long run."

She stayed, because it was easier than remembering what had come before this horse's body. When they asked her for a name she chose not to get choked up about her inability to recall, and instead found her voice long enough to reply, "Faith." just to see Sampson's smile.
