Description

Habitat: rivers of South-Eastern Asia, Jacarta Coast and nearby islands.

Ecology: solitary medium-sized fish feeding on smaller fish and invertebrates.

River snark is a true freshwater species of snarks, rarely found in the sea. It inhabits the rivers of Southeast Asia, the Jakarta Shores and nearby islands. The body length of this species is up to one and a half meters, rarely more; the coloration is greenish-gray with a darker back, a white spot on the jaw and an indistinct marbled pattern on the sides. The river snark is an ambush predator preying on small fish and crustaceans. Usually these fish arrange shelters in thickets of aquatic plants. During the rainy season, these fish are visible in the sea and swim in the open access of high water visibility, high straits between the islands. This species does not form stable living forms on the islands.
