Another school related piece. So in my Conceptual Illustration class we were frequently given redesign or re-imagining challenges with trademarked material (such as this piece I posted awhile back: Goku Monkey Boy Redesign ) and this time was no different. Except this time it was a group project and 80's cartoons.
I was in with 3 other people and we decided to do Thundercats. That was our first mistake. Ya know, considering none of us had actually ever watched Thundercats in any incarnation.

Well, we decided to do Viking themed Thundercats in which the same storyline essentially unfolds except the cats get stranded on a Third Earth that's currently in a Norse era AU culture thing. The style we chose was fairly high realism so I elected to draw environments (and a vehicle) since I can't really draw realistic people-things.

Originally I was only supposed to sketch and line the environments and others in my group would flat and color them but things got real bad real quick that week so I decided to ease my teammates load by rendering out two of them myself. I only posted the lines on this one because I didn't want to post a collab'd piece for folks I can't give proper credit to in my main gallery (one teammate did the flats and the other shaded/rendered), but you can find those pieces here:

Sooo yeah! Depicted are two landscape/world building images to get a feel of the place. The third is the reimagined Thunder lair (?) and Mumm-Ra's new lair, which is based on an Ásatrú temple (It was supposed to have a steeple thing but I accidentally forgot to line it OOPS).

Um. Yeah, this project was hell and I hated it. Maybe one day I'll post the Thundertank I designed but it's so horrible that I'm gonna have to contemplate that :')
Quite proud of these environments, though!
