I have wanted to draw an image similar to this for years. Decided to warm up with a speedpaint last night. Done in a little less than an hour.
As such, there's a lot of mess. Mostly mess. 99% mess. I really don't like how the horns touch the top of the canvas... but alas. It wasn't meant to be anything special. I was really hesitant to even post this cause it's not the level of quality I like posting to my dA... but I need to post more things here! I'm so neglectful outside of my finished work!

Shown is a Lanian wandering through the forests of Ambivia, specifically during the time of the Lanian War but that's not directly obvious. Lanians didn't really go onto the planet's surface during the war since they're too damn big to hide, but when they had to they would form camps in thick forest areas to conceal themselves. It was a pro/con situation. Good hiding spots, but terrible for maneuvering. Lanians aren't used to habitats where every other step you smack into a tree branch.

The biggest reason I wanted to post this here was just to show more Lanians! I've drawn so few of them over the years people tend to forget about them except when I remind folks Kailani and Garin are half Lanive, a related species which I also need to draw soon...

I'm still in the process of revamping Lanians and Lanives in design. I've been taking a lot of inspiration off the recently-revamped Spinosaurus and other dinosaurs. I'm keeping their form overall, but I want to change up their snout shape and feet. Possibly their back legs but I'm not sure yet. I also need to figure out if they have horns or antlers... So many decisions!

Pictured is a random male. In comparison to the trees and shrubbery I made him a bit too small. Lanians average around 15 feet tall at the brow. Put into perspective, Ambivians average 7 feet, so they'd be about double the height.
For those new to Lanians, they are sentient, highly intelligent beings. They rule over their lesser related species, Lanives, in building all of their technology for them. Lanians were the inventors of portal transportation technology (which is mostly illegal since it's so complex only they can use it) which was shown briefly in my Tapestry of Horror Audition: [link]
Lanians can only speak through something similar to telepathy, in which their words enter the minds of other beings through specific sound emissions they emit through their vocal chords, but they cannot read minds.

TL;DR They're really smart dinosaur aliens.
