How's it going? 
I had this idea of picking an angle that shows her from the top, basically fighting back against the invasion. I figured that would also allow me to show the burning city and have a backdrop that's bit more dramatic than your usual angel piece. So I went with it, and the rest was pretty straightforward! I tried to have the reds and blues balance each other out and have the whole piece feel like it's flooded with sunlight without being too bright. It's also almost completely painted from imagination, just eyeballed a few pictures of wings and hands, plus a few french churches to get stuff to feel more natural if I remember correctly.
This was also the last thing I painted in my twenties ;_; Am old now.

Congrats on making it out of your 30's. I turned 31 in October. SO we are both old now. 
Anywho. This is a lovely piece, and the fact you drew it without much reference shows your skill as an artist. Great work man! Its not a bad magic card either. Its an angle with lots of abilities. She was a good curve filler in Limited.Β

so first I wanna say: this looks fantastic.
also I want to say that I saw the serious look in her eyes and the effect lines around the blade and my first thought was one of those moments in cartoons where someone hits something with a sword or pipe or something, but they hit something too hard to break, so they just start vibrating and looking spooked.

I know he did studies from reference and then later tried to recreate the visual information he had learned without looking at the reference. I guess it is basically memorizing visual information by forcing yourself to actively recall what you have studied.

That sounds about right and makes sense. But I saw some of his work as a teenager (on Animexx, I think, which used to be a platform for Anime and Manga, where many people also posted fanart), and even then his pieces from imagination were outstandingly good!

Very nice work . The yes are great but you need to have a soul in them . Get I wrong but the eyes are nice but felling is always in the eyes .
