Story: (word count 863)

The heavy snow fell like stars . From any window folks could see the thick snowflakes coating everything in sight. Yet it wasn't all cold and lonely. Warm lights shone from inside houses, inns, and stables.

One such light belonged to the a warm guest house of AH Stables. The folks inside all laughed and talked. Everyone seemed to be in good spirits. Everyone but one. A young firbolg girl sat by one of the windows. Ivy sighed as she leaned on the window seal. Her eyes glued to the heavy snow and stable barns beyond. She felt a large hand on her shoulder. “Sweetie what's wrong?” A deep rumbling voice asked. Her adopted father Logan was looking at her. The copper dragonborn man had a slightly worried look on his face.

Ivy looked back out to the barn. “Are you sure the horses are gonna be ok papa?” The young girl asked. Worry written on her face. There was a bark like chuckle and Logan kneeled next to his daughter. “My little fireball, the horses are all safe and sound. Trust they will be ok.”

Logan stood and ushered Ivy over to the large wooden table in the small house. The warm smell of cookies filled the air. Bustling from the table to the counters and back was the half elf Ava. Ivy’s almost mom.

Ava had flour covering her. Her long blue hair was pulled up into a bun. She set down the last of her baking with a smile. “Ivy! Why don't you help me make gingerbread houses? We can even make a barn for the little horses we made.” Earlier that day Ivy had helped make and decorate gingerbread horses. She had made them look like stable horses out in the barn.

Ivy sat down with a sad sigh. The adults shared a look. Logan gently picked up one of the little cookie horses. “Why don't I tell you a story?” He rumbled softly. Ivy nodded. “One about our homeland papa?” Ivy asked softly. But the dragonborn shook his head. “No no. This story is about a brave little gingerbread horse.”

Logan had picked up the closest horse. And it happened to be the one made after AH The Redwings Song. Song was the stables Kuda-Pariso horse. Logan smiled at the tiny cookie.

“There once was a gingerbread horse named song.” He started, he made the little horse “trot” around the half built gingerbread village. “Song was a very brave little gingerbread horse.” Logan watched as slowly Ivy looked away from the window and at the little horse. “What did Song do?” She asked.

Logan gave a rumble. “Song was always getting into trouble. You see, she loved finding candy to bring back to her friends. But sometimes she would get herself stuck, or lost looking for candy.” Logan chuckled as Ava sat down. She watched him move the cookie horses.

“So..one day Song had heard of this amazing candy. Candy that when you ate it ,it popped in your mouth! Song wanted to find some for her friends. So they all could try some.” The little horse trotted around a house.

“She looked far and wide in town.” The horse trotted around the stables. “She looked at the barns.”

The little horse moved to the middle of the table. “But she couldn't find any!” Logan rumbled loudly. This made Ivy giggle. “What was Song to do? How could she find the magic popping candy?”

Ivy giggled again and this time she picked up a gingerbread man that had been made to look like a girl.

“I can help you! I have some magic candy!!” Ivy said in a mock storyteller voice. Her already high-pitched child voice went higher and mixed with giggles. Logan cocked an amused look and glanced at Ava. Who was giggling as well.

“The little horse asked the girl if she could share.”

Ivy giggled again. “Yes! Here!” Ivy pushed a small handful of gumdrops forward. “Papa that's the popping candy!” She whispered to Logan.

Logan chuckled. “Ok ok.” He made the tiny horse walk over. “Oh thank you! Now I can share it with my friends! You should come join us too!” Ivy nodded with a little squeal of a giggle. “Ok!”

“And so Song and her new friend took the popping candy back to her friends. And they all got to eat the magic candy the end.”

Logan gave a rumble as Ivy giggled but yawned. “That was a ok story papa.”

“Only ok?” He chuckled, standing up to shift past Ava and pick up Ivy. The small child curled into her father. “There should have been a dragon.” Ivy yawned again. Logan gave a sharp laugh. “You're right. Next time I'll add a dragon.” still holding Ivy, Logan mouthed to Ava that he was taking his daughter up to her room for bed. It was already so late. Ava gave a chuckle and waved him off. “Come back down when she's settled in.”

He nodded and with that took Ivy to bed. Ivy was already asleep in his arms. Her head no doubt filled with the story of the gingerbread horse Song.
