Description

Eight weeks ago Midori was walking her dog when it got into a fight with another dog.

She tripped over her dog’s leash and broke several bones in her right arm.

She was getting much better until a week ago when she slipped while going up some steps. Unfortunately, she wasn’t using the handrail because of her cast.

When she put down her left hand, she broke her wrist and a finger and managed to bang her face on the upper step. After a week at home recovering, it’s time for her checkup and she had her girlfriend, Karen, drop her off at the doctor’s office.

Now she’s ready to go home so she called Karen to pick her up.

While waiting, she calls her friend Teresa.

Let’s listen:

Midori: Teresa, hi, it’s me. I just finished my doctor’s checkup and I’m waiting for Karen to pick me up.

I hope you can understand me. I’m having some trouble talking.

Teresa: Oh, it’s ok Midori. You sound different but it’s no problem. What happened to your voice?

Midori: I told you about my arm a few weeks ago. Well, things were going ok, I was getting well and starting to feel pretty good.

After the first month they made a new cast for my arm and shoulder and they gave me some more breathing room.

This cast feels better but it is a little cool out here in the wind right now.

Then last week I had another accident. I slipped and broke my left wrist and smashed my nose and mouth on some steps.

I loosened several teeth so I have a brace on my mouth and hopefully the teeth will reseat.

That was really a setback. My nose hurt a lot for several days and I had such a headache.

Now my eyes are still black.

I look like a raccoon.

With my bad left arm, now I can’t type much either. My fingers and hand are still very sore.

Teresa: Midori, I’m very sorry to hear about your new accident. You don’t seem to have any luck but bad luck, chuckle. Oops, sorry.

Midori: Yes, hopefully in a few weeks this will be over. My right arm wasn’t injured any more so I should be able to get this heavy cast off in about a month. My wrist may be ok soon after that. It’s not a bad break. I have a splint and bandage on it now. My middle finger has a splint too. It’s really sensitive though.

Today was the first time I’ve been out since I smashed my face.

People have been looking at me strangely. I feel so self-conscious.

The next time I think I’ll wear a hat and a veil, hehe. Oh, my mouth hurts when I laugh.

Teresa: Midori, please let me know if you need anything. I’m not far way.

Midori: Thanks so much, Teresa. I’ll give you a call sometime when I need cheering up.

Ok, here come Karen. Bye for now.

Teresa: Bye, Midori, be careful. I’ll be thinking about you.
