Description

This is a portrait of my dear friend, who gladly agreed to be my model for this project. I used water colors, chalk pastels, and color pencils.

I hope you like it.Β

That's really good! I want to give water colors a try too in one of my future pieces, but I'm not at the point you are right now, considering the skills - it looks like a bunch of undecipherable mud in my case. ^^'

Thank you very much! But I think that you could try water color at any skill level. This was my first attempt using water colors, especially on a realism, and at first it was hard to make out what exactly the picture was, that’s why I also used pastel chalk and color pencils to darken and add more details to some areas. It was a trying and long process, but I like how it turned out in the end.
You should definitely give water colors a try! I would love to see that in your art one day (^v^)

Your first try? ... wow. ^^ Thanks for the description of your procedure for this project, I'm always interested in "behind-the-scenes" information like that. And yes, I have to try it myself as soon as I can - I'm a bit busy currently, but maybe I'll give it a try when I draw the request a friend gave me awhile ago (which will probably be the next thing I do).

Water colors (of every kind, be it acrylics, tempera, etc.) are pretty much my most favorite medium in art. I noticed that there are especially some asian comic artists (including some manga-ka) using watercolors and I'd really like to see more stuff like that, though I can understand the concerns about time constraints, especially if one is forced to produce a chapter per week and wants to utilize the advantages of digital coloring... but I digress.

Keep up your good work!

I only saw water color used once in one comic I had read and it was absolutely gorgeous, I fell in love, but, of course, it only lasted for a few pages and went back to black and white. It was such a nice touch to the story, too. But I look forward to your next work then, I hope everything goes well (^v^) And to you as well, keep up your good work!!
