Description I’ve been thinking of fun ways of subverting the stereotypical fantasy races, specifically in a more modernized fantasy setting. This is my interpretation of an elf relative to that world. The idea is that elves are just an ethnic population, not a distinct species. I also wanted my elves to be darker skinned and more culturally and technologically sophisticated than their more traditional interpretations. As such I was inspired by the aesthetics of Arab and Desi culture.

“Elves” are human but of an ethnic population with the peculiarity of pointed ears. The term of “elve” therefore often used by Easterns as a prejudicial perjorative against the darker skinned peoples of the Western nations. The people from nations such as Hurishan are seen by outsiders as both something less than and more than human; being marked as the former due to their complexion and pointed ears while seen as the latter due to their longevity uncharacteristic of other humans. Although this is oft attributed to mystical qualities, the explanation is more mundane and can be explained due to their advances in medicine and science and their disciplined adherence to it, bordering on the spiritual.
